Anybody pissed at new DVD security device stickers?
I've noticed with a lot of new DVDs I've been buying lately, that both the security stickers on the outside of the DVD case and the electronic security strip inside the case, use a stronger adhesive than before. Also, the security stickers outside the case break into little pieces, so frustrating, so annoying. So now I got to spend more time opening these stupid cases just to watch a movie. Anybody else notice this? I swear, since they've started adding these security devices awhile ago on DVD cases, I've wasted countless hours removing F**king things.

I first thought that the adhesive didn't seem to be any stronger than it was before, but then I remembered something. Lately, I've slightly damaged a few cases at a point on the bottoms of the cases where the outer plastic cover (not sure what the term is for that clear layer of plastic that holds the cover art in place) would get pulled a little by my removal of the security stickers. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's like if you took a pair of tweezers and pinched the outer plastic right at the bottom. It doesn't tear the plastic, but it does leave a mark.
I thought I was in too much of a hurry getting the stickers off, but maybe it's because the adhesive really is stronger. It hadn't occurred to me, but now it makes sense.

I have started using a razor blade to slice them in the middle, which does not damage the case-- if you don't do it too hard and use a sharp blade. You can easily peel them off after they are slashed like that-- just do it slowly. Ultimately, I do agree that the security stickers have always been excessive.

This has been my practice for a long while also.

On my copy of Nightmare Alley that I bought recently the sticker was so strongly adhered to the keepcase (on all three sides) that it damaged the keepcase. On the top it actually ripped a gigantic hole in the side of the keepcase and stretched and ripped it on the other two sides as well. I've never seen anything like that and wonder if it got left in extreme heat or something. The other two Fox noirs I bought opened fine.

I noticed the stronger adhesive most recently on the stuff I got from DDD. Also, that's the first time that I've actually ripped part of the cover art because it was hanging outside of the case a little (if that makes sense?), and the security sticker took part of the artwork with it. Is there anyone way to really avoid that? I had never thought to check and make sure the artwork was fully inserted before, because I had never run into this problem. But it happened on 2 dvds out of my DDD orders, so I guess I'm gonna hafta keep a closer eye on that from now on.

am i the only one who has problems with fox releases?
the plastic wrap around the dvds gets stuck to the binding and is not fully removable...
the majority of my dvds from the fox sale were like this along with my Family Guy Freekin sweet collection from bestbuy...
it just looks funny when they're on a bookshelf because you can see the tiny traces of shrink wrap that is still stuck to the binding...

What I hate are the top security stickers that have that little curved pull tab thing on them. What a stupid idea! With these, I just slice them along the case crack and pull off each half from the top.
I usually use a pocket knife to pry these things off.

Personally I take a meat cleaver and slice the non-folding edges off the case like crust off a sandwich. Makes for easier opening later as well.
Ok, well at least I feel like doing that.
I just pocket-knife the labels.

I use a boxcutter to open my dvds and sometimes I just leave the tape on there. What I find ridiculous is when I get a 5.99 dvd and it has one or two more security stickers than the expensive dvds. [seinfeld]What's up with that? [/seinfeld]

It's summer. The DVDs sit in hot warehouses and the adhesive gets "stronger". Put the DVD in the freezer for a few minutes and the stickers should come off without a problem.

To DDD's credit, all the DVDs I ordered from them came and the stickers were very easily removable, even though the DVDs were all at least a year old and may have been in a warehouse for quite some time.
