With so many movies being remade, given sequels or spin-offs, you get a few cases where the remake actually works and a few cases that make you think "why bother?".

Here's my question. If you had the power, what is the one movie that you would say is off limits to being remade? They can make all the sequels they want to the existing film, but don't ever remake the original.

Please limit to only one choice, not a list of choices. Just the movie you consider most off limits.

A year ago, I would say THE BAD NEWS BEARS, but they beat me to it.

For now, I'll say THE BREAKFAST CLUB.

pulp fiction, i just can't see someone other then quinten tarantino directing and all the others in the movie.

Funny thing is, for me an awful sequel does far more to tarnish the original movie than a remake does. Once I see what 'happens next' it's hard for me to forget the crappy way the story continues. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to "pretend the sequels never happened". Whereas I can ignore a crappy remake as a separate entity.

Normally I don't care if a movie gets remade. If it sucks, I'll just stay away. However I know that as I get older I'll be upset to see some of my old favorites get remade. Pulp Fiction is one of them, Fight Club and other favorites.

also, i heard rumblings about a mini-series remake of Kieslowski's The Dekalog. i hope that project is dead now.

These really don't count because they are TV series, but it shows Casablanca isn't held as sacred as it should be.

The pilot to the 50's version is on the Warner Casablanca 2-disc release (as is the Looney Toons adaptation of the film, "Carrotblanca").

Though it's been parodied a few times, I hope no one actually remakes The Seventh Seal.

I liked Woody Allen's short story that's a take-off on The Seventh Seal. "Death Knocks." (they play gin rummy instead of chess).

The first poster giving an answer got it right...if there's one picture that should NEVER be remade, or even given a sequel to, it's this one...of course that didn't stop the powers that be from making a pair of god-awful TV shows and a horrible novel ("As Time Goes By") from it...
