the Offspring "greatest hits" weak tracklisting anyone?

this is the tracklisting
1 Can't Repeat Offspring 3:24
2 Come Out and Play (Keep 'Em Seperated) Offspring 3:17
3 Self Esteem Offspring 4:17
4 Gotta Get Away Offspring 3:51
5 All I Want Offspring 1:54
6 Gone Away Offspring 4:27
7 Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) Offspring 3:08
8 Why Don't You Get a Job? Offspring 2:49
9 The Kids Aren't Alright Offspring 3:00
10 Original Prankster Offspring 3:41
11 Want You Bad Offspring 3:22
12 Defy You Offspring 3:48
13 Hit That Offspring 2:48
14 (Can't Get My) Head Around You Offspring 5:56

I personally think its missing way too many good songs. Here is a tracklist that i made after the most recent album came out

1 bad habit
2 genocide
3 gotta get away
4 something to believe in
5 come out and play
6 self esteem
7 the meaning of life
8 gone away
9 i choose
10 all i want
11 way down the line
12 pretty fly for a white guy
13 the kids are alright
14 feelings
15 she's got issues
16 no brakes
17 why don't you get a job
18 come out swingin
19 original prankster
20 want you bad
21 million miles away
22 defy you
23 hit that
24 can't get my head around you

time 1:19:44
so you can fit a hell alot more songs on there, and the GH is duel disc as well, so i guess that means that the "smash" songs have been remastered. on my disc, there is a noticible audio change between "self esteem" and "the meaning of life"

You know, I believe that GH cd is mostly directed to people like myself who only know Offspring for their singles and have never ventured past that. So one would get everything he liked from the radio and nothing he is unfamiliar with. But what is with this Greatest Hits anyways? Why are bands from the 90's on releasing these things? Blink 182 is later this year, whats next...Hilary Duff? Oh, yes actually she is releasing a Greatest Hits.

Agreed. Thats what greatest hits cd's are all about. They know that if a big fan of the band would probably already own all the albums and would not need the GH.

I only like a few Offspring songs (mostly their older stuff) but I don't think I'll be picking this one up. I'm against greatest hits albums anyway.

In all fairness, Elton John released his first album in 1969 and had a greatest hits album in 1974. There are other examples like this from years past. The Offspring have had seven albums out, starting in 1989.

Now Hilary Duff on the other hand, I have no idea what she thinks she's pulling...

Interesting, nothing from Ignition, which I thought was their best album.

Anyone have any idea how they got some material from their Epitaph albums as well as their major label albums on the same disc? I thought labels didn't like to cooperate like that?

I think Rypro is confusing "best of" with "greatest hits"

Wow, no "Genocide", no "Bad Habit", no "Total Imortal", no "Kick Him When He's Down", no "Million Miles Away", no "I Choose", no "Staring at the Sun"....

The disc is, what, 50 minutes long right? They could've easily fit several more songs on it.

I'm surprised there haven't been more - hits packages typically sell - and are cheap to put out.

Actually, many of the big 90s bands have had greatest hits out for a few years now: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day.

I don't mind the Greatest Hits/Best Ofs. As mentioned earlier, they're not bad (if they're done right) for just grabbing the singles of a band if you're not interested in getting all their albums. For me, Offspring is one of those bands that I'd rather just have the hits.

Good point. I've always considered them a 'novelty' act anyway. And I can only take their music in small doses ...so these 14 songs are appealing.

Now that I have this one, I'm hoping Bush releases a best of/greatest package soon...

There's nothing stopping you from putting together your own CD with that exact track listing.

Like the others said, it is a hits package and songs like 2, 4, 7, 11, 16, 18, 21, & 24 on your list aren't exactly hits. Nor are Bad Habit and a few others mentioned.

I will give you:
She's got Issues
Feelings
I, Choose
Total Immortal (this is more of a b-side if anything)

They do have plenty of room for a few more.

Sounds like you already own their stuff, buy the new track(s) of itunes or something.

Ixnay is their best, IMO.

Pearl Jam hasn't ever released a greaetest hits album that I'm aware of. They've had tons of live albums and a b-side collection but no greaetest hits or best of.

STP, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana all came out with theirs after the bands runs had finished. Personally that's when I think a band should come out with a best of or greatest hits CD.

pearl jam just released a gh cd last year, a 2 disc set. its actually quite good because it also has the songs that are popular with fans but not on the charts.

actually technically 10, 11, 18, and 21 were in the video game "crazy taxi" for the playstation 1 and dreamcast, so they could be consitered "hits" as well, but oh well, im happy. and hfs in baltimore still plays a bunch songs that aren't really "hits" as well.
and they (columbia) or the band probably didn't want to have a "pa" sticker as well since a bunch of the songs that are on my cd have several uses of the f word.

I swear I thought the "new" song "Can't Repeat" was with the 'life goes on' chorus was one of their older songs.

The Offspring are still one of the most overrated rock bands of recent memory. That being said, I still enjoy the occasional single from time to time.

Wow, I totally forgot about the PJ greatest hits disc. I kept meaning to pick that up but never did get around to it. I guess I figured I could just make my own since I have all of their albums but it would be kind of cool to have.

Just b/c they were on a video game doesn't make them hits. Those were a bunch of throwaway tracks they probably didn't care about being in a game. A hit usually has hit the radio, mtv, single status, etc. Not just the video game crowd. But it isn't a big deal. I own all their stuff. They just haven't been the same since Americana though. Got a taste of that "pop" money and haven't turned back.

The Offspring have been "pop" from the beginning. Come Out And Play and No Self Esteem are pop songs.

The PJ GH disc has songs from Ten remixed by Brendan O'Brien, which are well worth the price of the album and aren't available anywhere else.

I stopped listening to them like 15 years ago so I don't recognize many of those songs (a few that made it on television or in movies or whatever)... I thought sure baghdad (tehran) would be on there.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I hadn't considered picking it up since I own all the studio albums, I guess it may be worth looking into.

I thought the track listing was a bit weak as well as there were certainly other songs they could have included, but it's still pretty solid. I bought it and it's gotten plenty of play in my car already
