I've noticed a trend in movies meant to be watched by either kids or families. There always seems to be some line in there dirty or sexual in nature that you wouldn't want a little kid to understand. The latest was in the Charlie in the Chocholate Factory trailer. "Don't touch that squirrel's nuts" I admit I did chuckle at it but there is no way I would want my kid to understand the meaning behind it.


Why do producers feel they have to put these lines in a kid's film. I have heard the 'something for the parents' excuse. Are these people so dumb that they think if a parent is hating some movie, just because some sort of hidden dirty line in it is going to make the parent now enjoy it? If the producers feel it will go over the kid's head, why put it in there.

There are enough movies for adults that these little jokes are much more appropriate for. These are great for a movie like Austin Powers since that movie isn't meant for kids.

I think it's just the 'for the adults' reason you stated, but I usually find such litle jokes pretty lame. I remember going to see The Grinch and thinking the 'key party' shot was really out of place.

Most obvious is Spike yelling "Shit!" in the Transformers movie.

That and "Open dammit, open!" when Ultra Magnus is trying to use the Matrix. It's the line I always remember since "Shit!" was edited out of the VHS tape I got in 1988.

They might have the squirrel attack but the context of the line was also meant as a dirty joke for adults.

Even Finding Nemo had a fart joke.

i've seen the movie and the full line in that scene is "Little girl! Don't touch that squirrel's nuts! It'll make him crazy!"

This has been going on since movies began. If you watch any of the classic cartoons, like Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry, or especially anything by Tex Avery, they're filled with humor that's designed to go over kids' heads and amuse the grownups in the audience. That's why they hold up over the years: As you get older you find new gags you missed before.

ET had some profanity added so that it WOULDN'T get a G rating- they thought that would have gotten it labeled as a kids' movie and no one would have seen it. Just another reason why the rating system is a joke.

I'm pretty sure that really wasn't intended as a dick joke. Considering that entire little bit where they're making fun of Farquad (sp?) is all about how short he is, logic dictates that the castle joke is made about his stature, not the size of his cock.

Though surely you could interpret it that way, but it doesn't really fit what they were saying.

I'm pretty sure you can interpret anything in any way you want. Doesn't make it so half the time and other times you're just looking to deep into it.

I remember reading that the producers of "Chariot's of Fire" also didn't want a G-rating, and also added some profanity to get it a higher rating.

a G rating is usually to much and not always desires outside of most disney films. Teenages think it's to much for kids.

Umm, no, that line was referring to his lack of height, not what's in his pants. It's kind of strange (and kinda funny too) that someone would interpret that as a penis size joke.

I don't really like that either. Usually the jokes are in bad taste with the rest of the movie. I also don't like it when they add profanity just for the sake of profanity. I don't really mind profanity in the correct context but excessive or gratuitious use is just annoying. For an example Apollo 13 had quite a bit of profanity, especially on the astronauts part when in reality there was very little if any recorded during the mission.

How about the "pickles and eggs" joke in the recent Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. That was so glaring to me when I saw it with my daughter.
