Who else likes The Searchers?
These guys formed in 1957, so they were well ahead of most of the Rock 'n' Roll pack. The "problem" is, they are mainly a cover band, it seems.
I have their album Sire Sessions: The Rockfield Recordings, which I highly recommend. It's an amalgam of two original albums they recorded in 1979 and 1980, The Searchers and Love's Melodies. They sound incredibly modern and vibrant for a band that started in the fifties. I especially like "Murder in My Heart", "You are the New Day", "Love's Gonna be Strong", "Hearts in Her Eyes", "Silver", "Coming from the Heart", but there's not a bad track on the entire album(s). Brilliant stuff.
Can anyone who might know a little more about the band confirm or deny that the enegetic sound from this latter-day period is similar to its early recordings from the sixties? I'm considering getting a compilation of the early work.
