Listening to some live CD the other day and the guy said something like "feelin' high"... and the stadium erupted in joyous cheer.
Do 40,000 people really think "feelin' high" is THAT cool?!?

I wonder the same. It must be high school kids, or people pining for high school. Approximately 20% of all gamertags on Xbox live have something to do with weed (Deceptor420, Killa Nugs, Herbinator, Killa Herb 420).

Yes, I've been to several concerts, thrown many parties, and once went to a friend's house (mom had to hold my hand across the street though).
I'm 26, and personally find "getting high" lame, and teenieboppers who cheer it on even lamer.
While it was DMB, it was not "Under the table and Dreaming", but a live version of a song off a different album ("Before these Crowded Streets").
I love music and lyrics, I just can't stand lyrics about getting high/stoned/drunk/fucked up/lit/blazed/etc. Seems so unimaginative to me. If you don't agree - more power to you.

The fascination with weed, the word fuck, the number 69, has always somewhat puzzled me.
Hey, I love smoking up from time to time, and everyone drops F-bombs here and there, but amount of celebration these things get is weird.

If you were high right now you'd find what you just said hilarious.

"I went to see a band in New York. The lead singer got on the microphone, and he said "How many of you people feel like human beings tonight?" Then he said "How many of you feel like animals?" And everyone cheered after the animals part. But the thing is, I cheered after the human being part because I did not know that there was a second part to the question."

Heheh... that guy ruled.
Seriously, I've never really understood the hippy/pothead following that Dave Matthews Band has accumulated over the years. While it does have a bit of the same "vibe" to it, the music doesn't really lend itself to drug use. I haven't heard any DMB songs where they break off into an extended mind blowing jam or anything. Haven't these people heard of Phish and the like?
Anyways, rock crowds cheering for certain words/phrases is just one of those things that's been going on since before our time and will go on long after we're all dead. However, I've always wondered: Does the audience at a Bryan Adams concert cheer at the end of each chorus to "Summer of '69?" Any reports from the front lines?

Your first mistake was listening to Dave Matthews. YOU musta been high to want to hear his horrible voice in the first place.
