Callas Forever (dir. Franco Zeffirelli)

Though rather late it appears that Franco Zeffirelli's CALLAS FOREVER is going to be released in R1 land. Courtesy of Image Ent. (Mao thanks for the confirmation) the disc will quite possibly be cropped (or so DDD indicates). As the original aspect ratio on both the Italian and French releases is 1.85:1 preliminary info indicates that the R1 version will be 1.78:1. Street date is June 21.

Starring Jeremy Irons and Fanny Ardant the film was nominated for Best Costume Design by the Italian Syndicate of Film Journalists.

Even if you disagree with the way the complex character of the great Maria Callas is presented by Zeffirelli I still encourage you to at least give the soundtrack a try. Callas is and will always be one the greatest opera singers to ever grace the theater stages around the wolrd.

Ciao,

PS
If someone could prove me wrong regarding the aspect ratio...it will be just great!!

I thought both Jeremy Irons and Fanny Ardant did first rate acting jobs in this film.

1.85 and 1.77 are so close (esp on 16x9 displays) that even OAR-nazis like myself don't make a fuss. They did this for the first Toy Story movie and I think I saw one or two comments online about it. For me, it's much ado about nothing.
