Lord of the Rings Trilogy theatrical re-release when?

Not for at least 15-20 years, if ever.

10 years, and do the EE's.

at the earliest - 25 years.

I don't believe in re-releases. If you missed it the first time, you're SOL in my book.

It's rather shocking that New Line didn't do it for the KING EE release on DVD.

I know theaters have inquired about it, but New Line appears to be holding them back.

Over the last 10 years, I've received the opportunity to see the first two LOTR EEs, STAR WARS: OT, DIRTY DANCING, SUPERMAN, and GREASE (plus many other titles) with large, responsive audiences on gigantic screens. These are opportunites I wouldn't have without re-releases.

I don't consider the LOTR EE's and the STAR WARS: OT (SE's) to be re-releases. They are not the original theaterical release prints and have significant changes.

i don't think there are enough re-releases. that's why i bought a DLP projector and built a 9ft screen in my living room, to try to recreate a theatrical aesthetic.

Probably 90% of the movies I see (in any format) are theatrical screenings of older films.

For those of us who haven't been around since the '60s, it's nice to finally see films on the big screen that we have grown up with via the nice creation combo known as a television and VCR. I just wish more theaters in Vegas had re-release showings than the dollar theater at midnight on weekends.

Well, there's a difference between a revival and a re-release. I take a re-release as wide over 1500 theaters. If it's playing as a revival (or a festival) that's a different matter.

10 years, maybe 20. Definitely not 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19. I think 14 and 17 have potential though.

What difference does it make? It's not like wide re-releases are bumping quality films of out the box office. There sometimes (often) the only decent thing playing.

Just don't see them if you don't like them.

Though before the all the hate and flaming comes, I do respect these movies, they look great, well directed, well acted and well written. I just don't like them.

And yup, I still hate re-releases. Nothing more than a quick buck for the studio.. used to hype an anniversary or home video release.

You do realize that it is a business founded on the promise of profit, right? The original releases were sent out into the world in hopes of making money too.

yes, and premium cable rights, broadcast rights, pay-per-view... many ways to make a buck. the marketing of a re-release decades later reinvigorates interest, which sells more product; what was old, is new again.

Of course, every movie release to theater the first time, for re-release or on video or DVD is to make money for the studio, so what's the big deal?

I view re-releases as another chance to see a movie I love on a screen and sound system a million times better than any home theater I'll ever be able to afford.

I saw the EE of ROTK 2 weeks ago and it was great and the theater was full.This time they gave 20 mins of rest time interval.I heard only Japan gets this theatrical version
