Anyone seen The Reflecting Skin?

Someone suggested I watch this movie, The Reflecting Skin, said it was very disturbing and good. It is from 1990 and has Viggo Mortenson in it. It isn't out on dvd, and I doubt I would be able to find it at a video store anywhere. Just wondering if it is worth perhaps getting on VHS from ebay or something.

If anyone has seen it let me know if it is good. Thanks.

Try checking the video stores. I've seen it on the shelf often while browsing various places.

Since I'm lazy, I'll compare the tone of Reflecting Skin to David Lynch, although it's got more of a prarie setting. It's worth watching. Strange, creepy, and sorta funny. ('Each time I make my mother cry, an angel dies and falls from heaven')

I haven't seen it in a few years but I found it to be very disturbing yet intriguing. The young boy would grow up to be f---ed up for sure. Strange doesn't describe it.

this is one of the dozen or so titles that I have not been able to replace on dvd after selling all my vhs a few years back....

I really hope a dvd comes out some day....sooner better than later.

Is that the one that opens with the bullfrog scene? I rented that on laserdisc about a decade ago... I don't remember much about it, and had no clue that Viggo was in it. But that frog scene will never leave me.

German Region 2 appears to only have dubbed German audio tracks?

Thanks for responding. I found the movie at my local video store in the Cult section.

I liked it, I think. I need to reflect on it a bit more. It had hidden layers and may require one more viewing.

That bullfrog scene, I never am lost for words when watching movies, but that was... yeah, but I liked it, I am sick.

Spoiler:
If I remember correctly it’s about a boy who believes that his older brother has been taken in thrall by a vampire because he’s jealous of his attentions to a young woman. When symptoms of radiation poisoning start to afflict his brother (He’s in the military and being tested upon) this begins to confirm his suspicions. Also, there is a scene featuring a bullfrog.

This is an awesome movie. I wasn't aware it was out on DVD anywhere. Is the German DVD a bootleg of some sort?

As already mentioned, you should be able to find it in the cult or midnight movie section of many video stores.

No, it's a genuine release but from what I found out today, you'd think it was a bootleg! It's Pan & Scan and ONLY contains German language audio (with no English subtitles either). I don't think they could've butchered this release anymore could they?

I thought Philip Ridley would have a bigger film career than he did. As far as I'm concerned he was three-for-three with his script for The Krays, The Reflecting Skin, and Darkly Noon.

Sounds cool. What's up with the scene with the bullfrog?

Finally a Blu-Ray special edition coming soon of this horror cult classic that feels like a hybrid of David Lynch & Terence Malick.

I have the DVD but would happily upgrade to BD. Hope the release doesn't get messed up.
