Both those shows are in talks for big-budget theatrical remakes. Hawaii Five-O, from what I understand, is all set to go and should start production later this year. Rockford isn't for sure yet. But the studios/production companies who own the rights to the original shows may be holding off on the DVD releases in order to do a cross-promotional thing in conjunction with the eventual movie remakes down the road. Who really knows, though. The Miami Vice movie won't be out until next year, but they aren't bothering to hold off on the Season 1 box set release, so anything could happen. I'm with you, though. Those two shows really deserve proper DVD treatment.

Last I heard Paramount and Leonard Goldberg's widow had not come to any agreement. This is what was supposedly keeping the feature film from being made. This was some months ago. The shows were re-edited for syndication by CBS and syndicated by Viacom, which is now part of Paramount. Read at one time that CBS owned the shows and Paramount only the redited syndicated versions. Can't understand the problem there since they are the same company. Think it boils down to Paramount owning the shows and Goldberg's widow owning the Hawaii Five-0 name and the characters. She has her own website where she posts news about what's going on. Don't know the address, I got all this info from different fan sites.
That's Leonard Freeman not Goldberg, my bad.

I checked to see what the lastest news might be. It seems CBS wanted to do a feature film several years ago but was taken to court by Rose Freeman, widow of Five-0 creator Leonard Freeman. She won the case and holds the movie rights along with a producer named Litto. They want to turn it into a film franchise like Bond. The trouble getting the movie made is that Rose Freeman and Litto demand creative control and no studio was willing to give it to them. It seems that an agreement has been made with Warner Bros. As for DVD there was a vague statement about 2006 but no confirmation. Season one of Rockford is 12/6.

Fans have been waiting and waiting for this announcement, and Universal has just made it official this morning: The Rockford Files - Season 1 is coming to DVD on December 6th! The early info isn't complete, but you can expect a set of 3 double-sided DVDs according to the information provided. Strangely enough, the studio info shows the running time of the second and third disc as being about 6:42 hours, but the first disc (noted as double-sided) is only shown as being 3:52 hours. If that's accurate, then we hope it means the first disc is loaded up with extras. However, Universal's initial announcement made no mention of bonus features.
Aspect ratio is Full Frame (1.33:1), and soundtrack is English Mono (duplicating the original broadcast situation). There are also English and Spanish subtitles on these episodes. Price is going ot be $39.98 SRP.
There's no artwork just yet, but stay tuned and we'll bring that to you, plus any further updates, just as soon as they're available.
