Wow, hes a damn good drummer! The interlude was fantastic. Too bad the vocals suck and the heavy parts are a bit ordinary/generic. This dude should really be playing for a better band. If a band is looking for a drummer, he should send out a tape of him playing.

Is the band american? Cuase it sounds like he has an accent at the begining.

Something I always wanted to know, how can you play the double bass and blast beats at the same time and not get tired? I guess good drummers have more talent and endurance than guitar players or singers.

I would need a Midol the size of a loaf of bread to prevent the cramps I would get from performing a constant double bass feat like that.

Thanks for the posts. Yeah, I don't think the band is up to his skill. As for his speed, somehow he smokes cigarettes and can still play with that endurance. Usually when I'd go for a lesson, I'd bring the hardest thing I could find and have him transcribe it and play it for me. Hopefully, he'll get discovered and join a band with more potential. Either way, they've only played a couple shows so far.....

He has talent, but I question that of the other bandsmembers to be frank.
Best would be to find somebody as passionate about his instrument as he seems to be.

I think only the kicks are triggered. I suggested he trigger the toms too since the audience couldn't hear them too well last time.

It seems to me also after studying the vid he's plus on the technicality side, but it seems his "groove" could be worked on (?)

Keep in mind I'm only judging from the vid, honestly I think you'd be the much better judge of this being his student and all. I've yet to hear anything else.

Whats a trigger?

It's a pad or sensor or device that you hook up to a drum and each time the drum is hit, it sends a signal to an electronic output (Midi or whatever). So, for example, when you're kicks are triggered, each time you hit the bass drum, it sends the signal to a drum module and it plays it an an electronic drum through a speaker. Since someone like him is playing really fast, if you trigger the kicks, you can get the acoustic volume plus the electronic precision and tightness of the trigger. I hope that explains it. That may have been the worst explanation I've ever done.....

Anyway, his speciality has always been jazz....until recently. He's palyed with a steady jazz band for some time as well. The stlye he uses within the extreme metal realm uses a lot of jazz phrasing and complicated syncopation. Usually metal is more restricted and mathematical, but he prefers to throw in some jazzy licks when he can....to mix it up. I've suggested he restrict himself to more of a Nick Barker type feel, but he prefers the way he does it. I'll try to dig up one of his solos (w/o a band).

It's not opening but thanks for all the links above. My almost two-year-old is obsessed with drums and will love them.

I played a live vid w/some drum action and all he does is point at the TV and say "drums". Then he goes and plays on his toy drum kit.

Oddly enough, he's pretty good and I'm not just saying that cuz he's my kid.

I wish I had started playing at an early age. I only began about 5 years ago, but certainly could have used drum corp or school band to help build my chops. glad to hear your son is a drummer, although if he sticks with it, you'll have a hell of a time dealing with the noise
