Who has the TV rights to the original Star Wars trilogy?

I think the USA network had it for a while in the mid 90's


I can't remember it being shown on any network since then.

I've seen commercials for the SEs on TBS. I'm pretty sure they've been on Fox as well.

I doubt anyone just has the TV rights. Film rights are usually sold based on showings, like so much money in trade to show the film 10 times, or so on. So the television rights can really bounce around from company to company depending on what Lucasfilm wants.

Fox has Empire and Jedi right now. New Hope is always on TBS or WB.

i remeber a while back in the mid nineties, the sci fi networ would run widescreen versions of empire and jedi on thanksgiving

Last time I saw SW pre-SE was on WPIX in New York. That was several years ago (around 97-98).

If by original, you're meaning not only eps 4-6, but the untinkered versions, nobody would. Lucas has pulled them for his new versions. He even tried to replace the version that the Film Archive has. I believe they told him to go pound sand.
