Is Gwen Stefani the next mega pop crossover star (Madonna)?

Do you think Gwen will become the new milleniums answer to Madonna?

She and Beyonce are both traveling the same path where they leave successful bands, go solo, and become bigger successes as solo artists.

Beyonce is back with Destiny's Child and it remains to be seen if Gwen rejoins No Doubt in the future.

I like Gwen but think her solo CD is a piece of shit. Knowing how the general public loves over-produced pop and style over subtance: yeah...she can be the new pop/white girl R&B diva...whatever that means......

What band was Madonna a part of?

Nope. Neither will attain Madonna status, or they already would have by now. Madonna was as successful as she was because she was a first, she broke through a lot of barriers. These girls are just travelling an already beaten path.

Very well stated (and I totally agree). I still love Gwen Stefani's work (with No Doubt), however.

I think in her early years after she came to NY she was in a band called The Breakfast Club (years before the movie). I don't know how long they were together or if they even recorded any full albums, but I think Madonna was dating one of the guys and begged them to let her sing. So officially she was in a band at one time, but unless you know a lot of useless trivia on her you've probably never heard of them.

Could you be more specific as to which song? I have listened to the album quite a few times and I didn't notice any song similar to Hash Pipe.

Gwen is much better in No Doubt. The first single and her appearances to push her cd are complete failures in that both the music and her live performances are sub-par. With Madonna she almost always put on a great show and the music was enjoyable. Gwen is not, never has been nor ever will be on the same level as Madonna.

Part of "What You Waiting For" is also in falsetto and uses a similar vocal melody.

Madonna is kind of like Elvis. She's the only one who was able to do what she did and now that it's been done nobody is going to take her place. Whether you like her or not, she's shown remarkable durability.

Umm... Madonna who? She's sooo like 1980's. Soon we'll be calling her Gramadonna.

By the way Gwen gave an interview at the Kroq Almost Acoustic Christmas show a few weeks ago in L.A. and said she doesn't think she'll tour for her solo album, and that she looks forward to getting back with the band sometime next year!
