I read an article about this in USA Today a while ago. By the rules of The Golden Globes, neither film was elegible for best picture. I believe documentaries are inelegible for the best picture award and, believe it or not, Passion of the Christ is considered a foreign-language film and therefore not elegible for a best-picture award. Maybe it's not that strange that it wasn't nominated in the foreign-language catagory since the nominations are from the foreign press and they want to support their own country's films?

Huh - the only nominated movie that I have seen is Eternal Sunshine. Obviously, I think it should win every award associated w/ it.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is neither a Musical nor a Comedy. Stupid morons. Good to see it nominated though.

They probably just forgot to put it in their Romantic Sci-Fi Dramedy category.

It's not really a Drama either, so no matter where they put it it would be wrong. The good news is that it's pretty much a slam dunk in this category, whereas it wouldn't win in the Drama category.

Ehh, I'm not so sure. Sideways has a better chance IMO, and even Ray has a shot. It has a chance, but it's far from a slam dunk.

I dunno. Ray may actually take it. Tough choice between those two. Within the drama it's either Finding Neverland or The Aviator.

Depp has a good chance at taking best actor.

Clint Eastwood is on a roll.

Globes are screwy, though. Look at Carrey's two Globe wins:

Sideways - I just saw this movie the other day. Had to drive about 40 miles to see, but it was worth it.

Closer - recognizing the supporting performances which were both much better than the lead roles.

I agree that this year is very scattered, give or take a few movies, and that is great.

And is Ray really a musical? Is every movie about a singer a musical? To me a musical is when the story is told through song...Ray is a drama with a lot of songs in it (due to the subject matter). Anyone consider Great Balls of Fire and Coal Miner's Daughter musicals too? I didn't think so.

I was contemplating starting a thread about this myself. This has bugged me since the day I tried to find Purple Rain in the video store and finally found it under 'Musical'. (Although its sequel, Graffiti Bridge, probably would fit the description to a degree.)

Personally it's not going to stand a chance in hell in Drama and it's to off the wall to be considered in Drama to begin with. I doubt it would fit well in best actor Its best chance is in Comedy/Musical.
