R. Kelly kicked off tour after alleging he was pepper-sprayed
NEW YORK Lawyers for singer R. Kelly are filing a criminal complaint against a member of rapper Jay-Z's entourage.
Allan Mayer -- the Chicago-based R-and-B star's publicist -- says lawyers are also considering other legal action after the platinum-selling stars' joint tour came to an abrupt end.
The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer was booted from remaining shows at Madison Square Garden by the promoter yesterday. That came a day after a member of Jay-Z's entourage allegedly blasted Kelly with pepper spray, according to Mayer.
The promoter announced that Jay-Z, with special guests, would do the shows alone.
Jay-Z and R. Kelly were in the midst of a 40-city "Best of Both Worlds" tour. The promoter says the rest of the tour has been canceled.

better pepper spray than piss spray.
Everybody knows Kelly aint gonna feel complete til he turns your face into a toilet seat.
I wanna pee on you. yeah..
What a horrible show , first R Kelly pees on the audience, then Jay Z shoots a few who dont "Holla". He goes off and buys the Nets. All around worst show you could go to.

I think they did one cd together and second disc was full of throwaways from the first one (with an updated verse or two.) The first album was good (much better than the lackluster sales indicated, but that's right when the R. Kelly scandal hit), but the second album is really, really bad...even Jay-Z, the best rapper alive, couldn't save it. If anyone wants to know what happened to Foxy Brown's rap career, check out the track with her on "Unfinished Business". It seems as if she either got a sex change or is in the process of recieving massive testosterone injections.

From Pitchfork...
James Gregory and Aaron Mandel report:
So, say you're R. Kelly and you've managed to come off a potentially career-crushing sex scandal with a multi-platinum album (2003's Chocolate Factory) and a string of hit singles. Good one! Now it's time to kick back, enjoy the fruits of your success, and, of course, sue Jay-Z for $75,000,000.
Not content to merge rap and R&B on two recent collaborative full-lengths-- one of which is last week's freshly released Unfinished Business-- R. Kelly and Jay-Z are now pushing the classic rap "feud" style into the more mainstream "legal battle" realm. Earlier this week, their co-headlining "Best of Both Worlds" tour fell apart amid accusations of violence and intimidation. As of yesterday, Kelly has now left the tour, leaving Jay-Z to happily carry out the rest of the shows as "Jay-Z and Friends".
According to a report on Billboard.com, Kelly cut his October 29th Madison Square Garden performance short and walked offstage after claiming to see two members of the audience holding what appeared to be handguns. A search of the venue showed no signs of weapons among the crowd. The night's confusion, however, further escalated-- Kelly claims to have been attacked with pepper spray by a member of Jay-Z's entourage later that night. Kelly and two of his bodyguards were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and treated.
The following day, the tour's promoter fired Kelly. Kelly then got off the mat and filed the aforementioned $75 million breach-of-contract lawsuit. Jay-Z, who by all accounts had little or nothing to do with the fracas personally, told an interviewer on radio station Hot 97 that he was skeptical about Kelly's actual motive: "You can't get a gun inside Madison Square Garden. If people give me love, he can't take it." Hov's fans point to earlier incidents on the tour as evidence of Kelly's flakiness-- he was reportedly two hours late for a show in Chicago, and walked off mid-gig in St. Louis. Kelly, loverman to the end, released a statement that simply said, "The fans deserve better than this. I'd like the show to go on. It's disappointing that Jay-Z and the promoter don't."
That's not all there is to the story: Rolling Stone has further entertaining details about Kelly's suit, which says he was late in Chicago because "critical lighting cues were missed" the previous night, "forcing R. Kelly to stay up all night in order to completely reprogram the staging of the show himself." And then there's the account stating that Jay-Z ditched a show in Memphis so he could go to Usher's birthday party...
The conflict has taken attention away from related news of arguably greater significance: Island/Def Jam is in negotiations with Jay-Z that may lead to him becoming president of the label, even as Universal Music Group negotiates with him and his business partners to purchase Rocafella Records. What's more, on November 10th, Jay-Z and Linkin Park will co-star in the first episode of MTV's Ultimate Mash-Ups, in which Hova's vocals will be performed over Linkin Park's music and vice versa.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z's remaining tour dates will feature a series of guests filling in for R. Kelly: Mary J. Blige, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell Williams, Method Man, and Kanye West have already performed. The slate:
11-05 Miami, FL - American Airlines Arena
11-06 Tampa, FL - St. Pete Times Forum
11-07 Jacksonville, FL - Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena
11-11 Atlanta, GA - Philips Arena
11-12 Raleigh, NC - RBC Center
11-13 Philadelphia, PA - Wachovia Center
11-14 Boston, MA - Fleetcenter
11-17 Hampton, VA - Hampton Coliseum
11-19 Indianapolis, IN - Conseco Fieldhouse
11-20 Detroit, MI - Joe Louis Arena
11-23 Anaheim, CA - Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim
11-24 Los Angeles, CA - STAPLES Center
11-26 Sacramento, CA - Arco Arena
11-28 Glendale, AZ - Glendale Arena
Ironically, Unfinished Business, the collaborative album Kelly and Jay-Z were touring in support of, hit the Billboard charts at #1 this week, selling an estimated 215,000 copies-- just short of Kelly's projected figure ("In the first week, I predict one million sold") in the album's first single, "Big Chips". The disc marks the duo's second (and probably last) joint recording, after 2002's critically panned Best of Both Worlds, the release of which was downplayed after Kelly's arrest on child pornography charges. Unfortunately, we're at a loss for any more snappy "pissin' on girls" jokes, so that about wraps this one up.
