Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't find it through a search here...

I heard on the radio this morning that it was confirmed that Keith Richards signed to appear in the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Lost Treasure of the Abyss as Capt' Jack Sparrow's dad. I know it had been rumored for some time that he might do it. This was also the first time I've heard the new title.

I don't remember the source they gave for the info, but if this station were reporting it, chances are that this info has been out there for some time and I'm just late to the party.

UPDATE: Movieweb reports that Disney Confirms new title is POTC: Dead Man's Chest

That'd be pretty funny since Depp did say that he modeled Capt Jack after drunk Keith.

Funnier because Keith won't need makeup.

The Keith Richards bit was reported last week, although the title is new to me.

One the Rolling Stones Euopean site (iorr.org) there's a link to an article that says that they're going to film the next two Pirates of the Caribbean movies together, and that Keith will be in both of them. Apparently Keith didn't want to do it, but Depp was persistent and Keith finally agreed. My guess is Keith's bits will be little more than cameos, but I'm hoping for more than that.

Looks like the title I had originally posted has been debunked by the main man himself - Jerry Bruckheimer.

So since Pepe LePew was the other inspiration for the Sparrow character, will he appear as well?

Keith Richards is not signed to play Jack Sparrow's father.

Updated thread title and original post to reflect new movie title.

Update: Ok, since we've changed over to the new board software I can't find how to change the thread name, just the message title.

I found this interesting...

“We hope that we can do it as well as Lord of the Rings did it. That’s what you shoot for. You only learn through making mistakes, so we’ll watch what Back to the Future did and Matrix did and hopefully not repeat what they did.”
I hope they film them as individual stories instead of feeling like they need to make a two-part story just because they're filmed at the same time. LotR is a special situation because of the source material. I would love it if they made two standalone movies, released a year apart.

I have a feeling there is going to be a continuing storyline that links all three movies, probably
Spoiler:
"Bootstraps" Bill Turner and his relationship with Will Turner

Well, that's fine. I'm referring more to the overall storyline (main plot) of each movie. My biggest problem with the Matrix sequels is that it was really only one story stretched over two movies. This is fine for something like kill Bill, where they had enough story to warrant all that screentime. In the Matrix sequels, I felt they did not. I honestly can't imagine a 4 hour plus Pirates story being any good, but two seperate 2.5 hour stories could be.

I agree, two standalone stories would work much better for this series. I didn't mind the breakdown of the Matrix films myself, though, but this seems far more suited to films with a more episodic feel. Granted, the best would involve an overall story arc, with individual stories for each film that allow that story arc to work within it.

Kind of how Star Trek 2, 3, and 4 each had individual plots, but also were connected as one continuing story.

Those tidbits about the plot make it sound like they are rehashing the first movie's storyline. I suppose they want the story to remain similiar for a guaranteed hit, but it would be nice if they employed some originality. Even still, I'll be there opening night.
