Where does the GTA series go from here?

So where do you see the GTA series going after San Andreas? Do you think a game set in the future (next 20 years or so) would be any good? I see a much more epic story within a military state. They could go back to creating their own music with any number of "Oldies" stations. But who knows maybe it would ruin what the series is. What would you do with the next game?

Do you think they should ever do direct sequels such as having Tommy from Vice City come back as the main character?

Ok, nm. About direct sequels, it would be interesting to have similar voice actors returning to a title, but then I think that it might be hard to accept something like a VC 2, after having been spoiled with the grandeur of GTA:SA.

But if they made it, I'd still buy it!

I think it would be nice to have Tommy back as the boss you're trying to topple.

I think a neat idea would be to tie all 3 stories into one somehow. Not sure how they could pull it off but I am sure if I thought thru good and hard, I could figure something out. I am not sure if this is possible, but I can imagine it would take place across the whole USA.

I would love to see a futuristic GTA in the vein of the Fith Element. A game with that movie's vision of the future would be mind blowing.

GTA: Japan?

Yakuza, samurai, pachinko parlors, anime porn shops... blow up a few karaoke bars. Plus you're driving on the wrong side.

eh, just a thought.

I don't think that work at all. Granted, taking the GTA style gameplay and putting it into that sort of environment would be cool, but GTA has always been modern (80s is close enough) and gritty in ways, and should stick with that. Overseas aint' ab ad idea though.

Perhaps grand theft while country hopping, messing with the Yakuza, driving around England messing with IRA, hell you have have GTA baghdad...ha.

Though, I think it's more about expansion, perhaps a GTA: USA or something. Incorporate more and more elements into the idea is what I think would work the best, as opposed to limiting it to one locale.

I like it. Especially the driving on the wrong side part. That would be a hoot.

GTA has not always been modern. GTA2 took place in the "future," and GTA: London took place in the 60's. Also, there were pleanty of gritty-looking places (especially under the smog) in the Fifth Element. I think it'd be a great new take on the series.

Yeah, this would be cool. Or do a direct sequel. I dont like this futuristic talk. All I know is that I am stoked for San Andreas!

I'd like to see them improve what they have. I know everyone here has a woody for this game, but there's a lot of aspects that rub me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong it's still a good game to me, it just could be a lot better.

Futuristic? No way... I can't see that happening.

GTA has never rubbed my woody the wrong way - I think they're gonna have to go further back in time though. Revisiting the GTA: London 60's theme with the new 3D engine would be pretty groovy...

More than anything, I wish they'd fix up the fundamental mechanics - nothing (driving, walking, flying, running, shooting) has ever felt right to me in the series.

New Orleans could be a fun location.

I like the idea of setting the game in Japan. I also think a GTA game set in Moscow or St. Petersburg during the cold war would be really cool. Or maybe West/East Berlin with the wall dividing it. Imagine trying to get away from KGB agents and having to cross the Berlin Wall. That would be pretty cool.

and if the idea of feeding your character picks up from GTA:SA, think of the fun it will be to wait 10 hours in line for some bread and milk.
