connection - anyone know what I might be missing?

I recently upgraded my tv from an old zenith with only one composite connection, to a Philips 30PW862H with s-vide, component, and composite connections. With the old tv, all the peripherals were hooked in via the receiver (JVC RX7030VBK), but with this new tv, those hookups don't seem to work and I have to hook stuff through the tv instead.

I was able to get it so my cable comes up, and my xbox, but I'm having problems with my dvd player (some cheapo foreign all region player...yamakawa? Something like that). I had the dvd player plugged into the receiver via composite, but now I can use component. I hooked the component into the tv and the sound through the receiver, and while I can hear the sound, I can't get a picture.

I've moved it to the open component options on the tv and get the same thing. Anyone know what I might have missed? I unplugged the composite video so its not that. The picture will flicker when I turn on the dvd and change it to the channel that the component is hooked to, but it won't come up completely. I could switch to s-video, but I wanted the component connection.

Knowing me, its something blindingly simple that I will kick myself for later, but for now, its something that I can't seem to figure out. Any suggestions?

Check to be sure that the dvd player is set to output component. Check to see if that input on the tv needs to be set to component.

That sounds like it. In the system menu of your DVD player, you should have an output choice somewhere. It needs to be set to component.

If you can't see the menu, try connecting the DVD with composite. Change it while you have it on screen, then change the cabling.

Nothing on the tv about it being set to component. The dvd player has a component option that lets you choose between off, Yuv, Vga, and Scart. I chose Yuv and still couldn't get it to work though.

It works fine via composite though, so not sure what the missing part of the equation is.

It could be that the player is outputting YUV and the TV is looking for RGB.

Nevermind, I'm a dumbass. I finally figured out what was wrong. As usual, it was something dumb and small.
