I can't play Doom 3 because of CD/DVD emulation?

I keep getting this error telling me that I can't play the game because of CD/DVD emulation software. I don't know what software I would be running that would cause this error. I own the game, its not a copy.

Doom 3 has that kind of lame anti-pirating check? Weak...

I think any CD/DVD cloning software will trigger it (like Absolute 120, maybe CloneCD) as well as any virtual drive software.

I read someone that had the same problem with Madden 2005 on PC over at anandtech. I didn't have any problems with Doom 3 on my computer though... i agree with joeblow, try uninstalling that sort of software and see if it helps. Or if you have Daemon Tools installed, try disabling it.

Daemon Tools works very well, I believe. I, too, own the game, but I ripped ISOs because I didn't want to lug around three CDs (my notebook already weighs seven pounds!) I played through the whole thing that way, and it worked great.

Don't uninstall anything, just get a crack for Doom 3. Game companies don't have any business putting stuff on the disc that screws over legitimate customers. CD-Copy Protection has been a joke from the start, and this kind of crap just makes it worse. Pirates will have the cracks released before the game even comes out, so just take advantage of it.

I have CloneCD, so that is probably whats screwing it up. I'll try uninstalling it and see if that helps. Its unfortunate because I use CloneCD on a on-off basis...won't it mess up online play if I use a crack though?

It shouldn't, since you have a valid CD-Key.

That's ridiculous. I can't wait until companies finally come up with a way to make their copy protection anything less than completely annoying. On my computer Vice City was almost unplayable due to the game constantly checking for the CD. Once I installed a no-cd crack, I was able to play the game just fine.

It's absurd that a game should be checking your computer for software the company doesn't like, though.
