DTS Problem

For some reason, I can't get my DTS to work. I hooked up the optical cable to the correct ports, selected the DTS track on the DVD player. But, for some reason, my Kenwood receiver will only output Dolby digital 5.1.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Does your receiver handle DTS?

Ok then sounds like a setting somewhere.

Check your receiver's setup to be sure that it is set to something like "auto-decode". It maybe defaulting to DD.

Zod, I'd be willing to bet you a shinny doughnut that you haven't enabled DTS on your DVD PLAYER. For some reason, many ship without it enabled.

Really?!

How do I go about enabling? Would it be in a menu somewhere in the DVD player?

Yes, but sometimes you need to have a DVD in the player (or no DVD - it depends on the player) but not playing (ie. stopped) to be able to access the menu.

Either with the player stopped or no disc in, press the SETUP button. You should see a menu. Under sound options (or similar), you should be able to see if DTS is on or off.

Sometimes the options are not ON or OFF for DTS but rather PCM or Bistream. To enable DTS you have to select Bistream.
