Guess it is better to just release the stuff when it is done and never talk about it beforehand, that way it is all over the net by the time you get a cease and desist letter. I can understand the reasoning behind them getting shut down but it still sucks.

yep, this happened a few weeks ago, I've been following this project almost since the beginning but knew it was gonna happen eventually.
Too bad, this is the best looking amateur project I've ever seen, not only that but its a game I was actually interested in, the trailer is incredible.

Lets say they did make a completed project....How are they going to distribute it? And, say they can distribute it, then why not show the game off when its done in order to avoid the cease and desist letter. Or if you are going to show off images, why not say they are design concepts for "what could be" a game?
HDLoader is a prime example of how to execute a "fan game". HDLoader eventually got shut down by Sony, but at least they made a launch and got their product into consumers hands. They did this by staying under the radar until it was right before the time to distribute.

Square probably thought it'd be another obvious fan game (good in it's own way but nothing that'd "look" better than their own games). When they saw they were going to be upstaged (at least graphically since we never got a demo to get a feel for the gameplay) they decided to pull the plug. If they were smart (and not as greedy as corporations can often be) they should hire all these guys and buy the finished product from them so they can slap their logo on it and milk the Chrono/RPG fanbase market.
