Retro Game Challenge #6 (9/6-9/12)
Week 6 is over!
The Rules:
So far we have only been using MAME to play the games, but that can change.
To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot (F12 key in MAME) with your score.
The deadline to post your high scores will be Sunday 11:59 PM Eastern US time.
When you post a high score, make sure to pick a new game to play by Monday. The sooner the better.
Please don't use continues or savestates for any scores you submit.
I am going to host the current ROMs and list of all the past winners and high scores here.
The Games:
(click the titles for info and how to play)
Elevator Action - Winning Score: keyed 66400

Nibbler (Set 1) - Winning Score: D300 113570

Mr. Do! - Winning Score: joeblow69 123250

The Prize:
Whoever gets the high score for one of the games picks the next game that replaces it, so we should always have 3 to choose from. The game should be over 10 years old and hopefully easy enough for everyone to get running. You also get your name engraved with a genuine Sharpie on this eye catching trophy!

Here's mine for starters. Rest assured that I'll be back with a MUCH better score. . .

(Oh and should I win - I think I'll go with Bosconian for next week's challenge)

I'm trying to get some good scores but to no avail so far.
I quit playing nibbler though. Darn snake drives me nutz.
I did get a free game on Mr. Do!

Just don't ask me how I did it.

Damn! What level are you on now? It's been over 14 hours!
I need a little more practive at Elevator Action. joeblow dashed my hopes for Mr. Do
Fortunately, I must be the only one playing Nibbler because I can't even defeat the default high score! Nibbler was the first game to register scores into the billions. I don't know how they ever thought that would be possible. Hmm, maybe this guy could do it if he didn't tap out after 10 hours!

The pink is level 5. I've been able to get to the lower half, but the suits get me every time because of their laying down shots.
The way I've been racking up points is to jump kick the black suits at every safe opportunity on the upper floors. You get 50 points more doing that instead of shooting them. Get them to shoot first while you're in the elevator, and then drop kick them when they can't shoot. I use to just jump them from the elevator immediately, but eventually you get killed when you mistime it. Better to be safe than sorry. By the time you finish the first stage, you should be close to 10k and getting your extra life.

Ooh, I didn't know you could kick them.
So far I usually don't have trouble until the end of the 2nd level. Then the baddies start ducking and shooting from elevators. I also seem to run into a lot of trouble after I die the first time if I have to start near the bottom with that mess of elevators.
In the meantime, I'm getting closer to that default high score for Nibbler

I'm going on vacation for the rest of the week, and won't be able to play anymore. If for some reason you light-weights aren't able to topple my Mr. Do! score, I leave my choice for next weeks game up to Roto.
