Got me some wires I need to have come out of the ceiling. I have insulation in the ceiling. Don't want it coming down. And don't want just a hole in the ceiling.

Can anyone point me to some good solution ideas?

I mounted boxes on the joists and then after the drywall was done I bought either face plates with holes or blanks and drilled my own holes.

I've thought of that but need to pass a VGA cord through. That will need a big hole and then just the wire taking up the space. Anyone know of a rubber type cover or something?

Get an Old Work Outlet Box



Link to installation from Home Depot or Lowes. This allows you to cut into the ceiling and insert this box for your VGA cable to run through.

Next, get a flexible type coverplate with no holes. They are NOT the hard type! The hard type will crack when you bend them. I think the flexible ones are made of nylon.

Cut a hole large enough for the VGA cable (not the end) to fit through. After you have cut the hole, then cut a slot from the edge of the plate to the hole. You can then flex the plate enough to get the cable in through the slot to the hole.

Attach plate to old work outlet box and voila... you're done!

That's what I did for my ceiling mounted projector. How are you liking the X1?

It is being shipped as we speak, as well as the screen, etc. I am currently getting stuff ready. I'll post before and after when I get it done.

Where do you find the nylon type covers? That is the only thing I can't seem to find.

Sorry to not reply sooner. I'm in the process of restoring an old arcade cabinet to become a MAME cabinet, so I've been off-line.

I bought mine at Lowes. Home Depot should have them as well. I'm going to Home Depot Saturday for some other things, I'll see if they have them and the model number/sku. I'll post back here.

What type of screen did you settle on?

I wend with a Dalite Deluxe Model B with video Spectra 1.5 material. 60"x80"

I didn't think tension would be a problem in my room, but for $20 more the Deluxe has the tension rod in the back.
