Disappointed in new Tift Merritt album

Listened a couple times on Rhapsody today. Just couldn't get into it. Played way more like Shania Twain crossed with her older work. Just not as rootsy or soulful. Glad I didn't buy it. And yes I do believe Bramble Rose is a masterpiece.

I bought it today, and I'm listening to it right now (I'm on track 10) and I really like what I hear so far. It's a bit more rockin' in parts than Bramble Rose, but I'm not regretting my purchase.

Hmmmm.... Perhaps my expectations for Bramble Rose were too high, but it didn't really do much for me. But I've heard a track off the new album (don't remember which one) -- it was definitely one of the "more rockin'" ones -- and I'm willing to consider giving the new album a shot.

After giving this a few listens I now realize I should've said it's more rockin' and soulful than her first album. I'm not getting a Shania vibe from this at all. If I had to compare her to another artist I might say she's following Shelby Lynne's soulful lead, but think "Tambourine" is more solid than "I Am Shelby Lynne" was.

I listened to it streaming off the net...I liked Bramble Rose, but it paled in comparison to seeing her live. Her live show was much more rockin and much more gritty. Some of the new album catches this feel, but some of the new album is intolerable...there was one song (somethign about a U Turn) that was unberable. I'll probably get around to picking it up eventually.

I don't know. As of right now Bramble Rose is still my favorite of the two- but I've had more time with that one, of course, and I instantly loved "Virgina No One Can Warn You"- none of the songs on Tambourine have hit me like that one yet.

I'm just saying the new one isn't a total disappointment, but an interesting growth/departure from her first.
