Advice needed on Component Cables and Picture Quality
I just recently bought a Kenwood Sovereign DV-5700 DVD player and a 4M Monster Cable M1000CV component video cable to hook up to my 53 inch Sony Projection TV (Not HDTV). The DVD player got great reviews in some magazines because it has the Faroudja chip, DCDi , etc. I thought that component cables would solve a problem with Moire patterns and some other video artifacts such as when someone has a plaid shirt on in the video, or a chain link fence. But in my case, I see no improvement over my old Sony DVD player (NS-300?) and Monster S-Video cable. Actually I thought the picture was a bit sharper on the Sony! Could I have a defective DVD player or cable? Is there anything I should be doing special? (Cable placement, no twists, etc). I am running the cable straight from the DVD to the TV Component in.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

I am confused.
You say the player got great reviews, yet you are trying to solve a problem(?) with Moire by changing cables?
I would start with a calibration of the TV and a full review of the settings on both the player and the TV.
What was your source material to make this determination? Some discs are just plain bad.
Try some other discs to see if you still have a problem after calibration.

It sounds to me that the problem is that you don't own a HDTV. On a SDTV you don't have the resolution to view a completely smooth moire, jaggie free image. A high end progressive DVD player with high grade component cables will not help display what the TV screen is incapable of.
