Stereo system woes. Can you help me?
I recently moved and since I hooked everything up all isn't well. 99% of everything is working great. Like before. Problem is, I can't get my sub working. It gets power and gives feedback(if you touch the composite cable), but the moment I plug it into my receiver I get nothing. I've tried different cables, different settings on the receiver, turned the sub to max... nothing.
I tried regular speaker cable just to test it and that works, problem is I don't have standard speaker inputs for the sub, just the main 5 speakers. D'oh.
It is a Sony receiver, only 18 months old tops, if that. I called radio shack and they said they would fix it for $80 an hour. I don't think it is worth that much.
Any suggestions? A way to fix it? A cheaper solution?
Thanks.

Turn the level on the sub waaaaaay down and connect the left or right of the Tape out from the receiver to it with a source playing (and the Tape Monitor on). See if you get anything coming out of the sub, turning the volume up gradually.
If I had to guess, I'd say that there's nothing coming out of your Sub output on the receiver. Maybe there's a setting to turn it on, or maybe it's broken. Doing what I describe above (but be careful) will confirm this, or not.

Good suggestions from stevet
Might also try the following
Check the ends of the sub cable (or the cable you were using for the sub) to see if they are loose or broken.
Try checking the receiver, perhaps by turning it off for so long it defaulted to something that is not giving you sub out.
