Are there any movies that you hated, but loved it's soundtrack or score?

Although "hate" is too strong of a word, I didn't really enjoy The Harder They Come. I absolutley love, on the other hand, Jimmy Cliff's soundtrack (and the other bands on it). The Deluxe Version that came out a while back is even better, as the second disc has lots of classic reggae.

the Spawn movie soundtrack was pretty great... an interesting (then) idea of techno gurus mixing it up with some generally hard rock musicians. i even enjoyed the kOrN song.

other than that, most of the soundtracks i love were from excellent movies as well. ie Pulp Fiction, The Royal Tenenbaums, Twin Peaks, Ravenous, Lost Highway

The two that come to mind are Romeo and Juliet and Orange County.

Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers. Same ol' Bertolucci bullshit, a stupid and insulting film but terrific soundtrack and music all-around.

Plunkett & Macleane.
Fantastic score by Craig Armstrong, but the film itself was disappointing.

I despise Natural Born Killers, but the Trent Reznor selected soundtrack is one of the better ones around.

Juice was a terrible movie with a terrific soundtrack of early ninties rap.

Judgement Night is similar but with the addition of early ninties alt rock and metal bands (Sonic Youth does a track with Cypress Hill, De La Soul does a track with Teenage Fanclub). It's strange but good.

I didn't care for the movie, Vanilla Sky, but I adore the soundtrack.

TWO OF A KIND. It's a horrid movie with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John after they did GREASE and it's absolutely horrid!! However the soundtrack is filled with some great songs: Boz Scaggs- THE PERFECT ONE, Chicago- PRIMA DONNA, Journey- ASK THE LONELY, Patti Austin- GONNA BE SPECIAL, John Travolta and Olivia Newton John- TAKE A CHANCE.

Crow 2: City Of Angels

Filter's Jurassitol was pretty tight among other songs of course.

Crow City of Angels immediatly jumped to mind. Also, Magnolia.

Nowhere - headlined by a great song by Radiohead. I just didn't get the movie though
Permanent Midnight - I don't really like dramatic Ben Stiller but I liked the soundtrack.

Tomb Raider

Xanadu was a horrible movie, but I've always liked the soundtrack.

I buy a lot of soundtracks, it's a good way to get a decent mix of music. The way I normally do it (though it's been a while) is to go to www.secondspin.com, do a search for CDs 2.99 and under, then look at the arties "various".

Anyway, here are my favorites:

1. I Know What You Did Last Summer - The first half is very good, I especially like the Hush version by Kula Shaker and Summer Breeze by Type O Negative)

2. She's The One (good if you like Tom Petty, he did the entire soundtrack)

3. Tortilla Soup (good if you like Spanish language mellow music, there are some songs in English also)

4. An American Werewolf in Paris (the first 10 tracks are great, then it just sort of falls. Probably my favorite two tracks are the Bush - Mouth remix and Human Torch by Fastball, though all of the first ten tracks are very good)

5. Reality Bites - good music from the early to mid 90s, plus a few older ones.

6. Me, Myself, and Irene (lots of good Steely Dan covers by modern bands, plus a few other songs tossed in for good measure).

As for scores, I hate them. They just flat out suck, if you want classical music, then listen to real classical music on NPR. Avoid anything that has the word "score" in the title, it's going to be bad classical music.

As for a couple that I didn't care for, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and, I believe it was the soundtrack to Batman Returns, both didn't do anything for me.

Teaching Miss Tingle had a few good songs on it but it's not worth more than a few bucks.

Well, I can add another to my list. When I Heart Huckabees came out, I really wanted to love it, but it fell far short of my expectations. The soundtrack by Jon Brion, though, is excellent. I just got it from the library. "Knock Yourself Out" has been on constant repeat.

I wouldn't say that I hate these movies, but that the soundtrack/music far exceeds the movie in my opinion..

Some Kind of Wonderful (don't get me wrong it's not a bad Hughes film, but when you watch it now, the fact that it's a poor man's Pretty in Pink really stands out)

Repo Man. I didn't hate the movie, but I wasn't really impressed much with it. Really cool, diverse soundtrack.

As someone who listens to scores exclusively, that kind of remark makes me sick. I am the opposite- If I want to hear a bunch of stupid bands/ solo artists, I'll listen to the radio.

Plus, not all scores are faux classical music. I wouldn't classify Jon Brion's (Eternal Sunshine, Huckabees, etc.) that way, nor hip-hop (Ghost Dog, Boiler Room) or electronic (Matrix) inflected ones. Personally, I love listening to scores (and soundtracks, for that matter).

I can't believe no one called Heat on that comment when he first said it back in August. Or maybe it was just so absurd no one bothered.
