Amy Lee's voice calls to me like a dog whistle...

OK this is weird... I used to be a huge music fan but lately I've been ignorant, only listening to the radio while doing the dishes or taking a shower.

So 2 weeks ago I'm doing the dishes and here comes "Everybody's fool" on the radio by Evanescence. It's like a divine songstress was calling me... However her voice is not exceptional, it just has a "quality" to it which I can't identify but makes me want to listen to the whole song!!

Is her voice enhanced somewhat in the studio? To me Evanescence sounds like Queensryche with a nymph voice (sorry Geoff Tate!).

Last week I saw the Seether video of "Broken" and everytime she came on it was bliss to my ears!

Am I the only one with this affectation?

I think they're overrated, but to each his own. There's much better female singers out there.

The band should just be called Amy Lee.

I was in the pit for their show at Merriweather last week...damn was she hot...her voice is amazing in person...and she has a superb stage presence.

Ok and her boobies jiggle a lot on stage too...

But seriously her voice is amazing...the rest of the band is sad.

Is their album any good? Or is she a great voice with a one hit wonder band?

I like her voice a lot. She is easy on the eyes as well as the ears.

Lacuna Coil are much better and their female singer is also amazingly hot.. I heard that amy lee isin't into the whole goth thing and wanted the band to be more pop? well it was just a friend rambling so it could be un-true.

I found Evanescence's "Fallen" to be a rather consistent album, with all of the songs of at least more or less the same quality, as opposed to most acts who will have one or two singles and a lot of filler.

And if anyone is thinking about getting Lacuna Coil's latest CD, "Comalies," make sure you get one with DIVX... er, I mean make sure you get one with the bonus CD. The bonus CD includes single versions of "Heaven's a Lie" and "Swamped," as well as seven acoustic tracks and their two videos in Quicktime format. Well worth seeking out.

Yes we all know Lacuna Coil is great. To answer your question yes all Amy's stuff is good and I think you would like the whole album. Her voice does have a great quality that makes you want to listen to it again and again. The other bands mentioned have great singers too, but as you are asking about Amy Lee hopefully everyone can stay on topic without the "they suck, listen to this".

Lacuna Coil never seemed like a goth band to me at all.

Yes I would! It's her voice that got me curious to start with after all. Her looking cute is just an added bonus .

Aretha Franklin is definitely not model material but I love her gospel stuff. It's all about the voice baby!!

Aren't dog whistles shrill, high pitched and painful to the ears?

I too enjoy Amy Lee's voice very much. I have the album, and it's enjoyable, if not a bit repetitive. At least it's repetitive in a style that I happen to like. A question for KnightLerxt: I wonder if the band isn't as good as a result of the departure of their guitarist(?) and main musical contributor guy...I forgot his name.

However, the voice that just makes me stop dead in my tracks personally is the singer from Morcheeba. I forget her name...Skye I believe. Nonetheless, I love her voice, it's incredibly soothing, and my favorite album of theirs is "Big Calm" (almost typed Big Clam).

DAC: Heaven's A Lie was their first single/video off the album IIRC. Since then they've released another video for Swamped. I enjoy her voice immensely...the guy's voice doesn't do much for me, but at least it's not a negative impact either.

Ben Moody is who you are refering to if I am correct.

Someone in the pit actually shouted "Where is Ben?" at the show.

At any rate I thought the lead, rhythm guitar, bassist...and drummer were just lackluster...expecially the drumming...

The best thing about this band is Amy Lee's voice...and the production values on the cd.
