Yet another DIRECTV TIVO question re: dual-tuner
I'm a DIRECTV customer, and I plan on picking up the $99/35 hour TIVO.
My question is about recording one thing and watching another at the same time.
The DIRECTV site gives the following disclaimer:
"for full functionality, the receiver requires connection of two satellite inputs from a dual LNB DIRECTV System dish antenna"
How do I know what kind of dish antenna I have?
It's one dish connected to three rooms.

You must have a dish that has a dual lnb, ie., two coax cables coming off the dish.

If you have one dish and it's already feeding three rooms (and by that I mean three separate receivers that can all be tuned to something different at the same time), then you probably already have a quad LNB. This would mean you have an open, unused LNB port on the dish. You just need to run an additional lead off the dish to the second tuner on the DirecTivo.

Actually, I believe you can split a single signal with the proper equipment. I have two lines coming into my house from the dish. I used a Satellite Splitter ($50) to split the signal for my Ultimate TV (still better than TIVO) downstairs.

When I had my DirectTivo installed, it came with a free Multiswitch, so I didn't have to buy anything extra.

Well, I wouldn't recommend the Brick and Mortar stores....they are WAY too expensive....They want $79 for a cheap 2x4, non-powered switch.
a. hometech.com I had relied on hometech for a long time because I have had good experiences with them in the past and their website is very informative. For a while, they did have some of the best prices on the net for Channel Masters and Spauns. They still have discount prices, but other .coms have beat some of their prices.
