Check out the whole Punk Chartbusters compilations.

There's also a couple compilations called "Before You Were Punk".

Please, avoid 99% of punk covers of 1980's songs. They're such a colossal waste of time and tehy all sound the same. Few do it with the right blend of originality and gusto, such as Me First & The Gimme Gimmes; on the other hand, you get absolute junk, like MxPx covering "Summer of '69".

I thought that was the Ataris?

I agree though, pop punk covers suck for the most part (then again, so does pop punk). Take a simplistic song that was once a hit...speed it up...add some feedback...Instant Hit!

EDIT: I was thinking of "Boys of Summer" obviously. Interchangeable bands. Interchangeable covers. I apologize for nothing!

I'm pretty sure that's not a cover.

Dinosaur Jr. doing "Just Like Heaven"

And, not exactly 80s, but Veruca Salt did a cover of "Bodies" by the Sex Pistols. (I suppose one could lump the 'Pistols in with 80s new wave if one were so inclined).

Orgy doing "Blue Monday." (orig. by New Order)

Fear Factory doing "Cars" (orig. by Gary Numan)

Helloween covering Abba's "Lay All Your Love on Me" (This is from "Heavy Metal Jukebox," a covers album by this German metal band doing covers of numerous songs like The Beatles "All Your Loving," FNM's "From Out of Nowhere," and Bowie's "Space Oddity". An odd mix, but it's one of my guilty pleasures)

You must be thinking of either their cover of "There She Goes" or "Don't Dream It's Over."

You mentioned Marilyn Manson; I'm surprised you didn't list the hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)."

The Donnas do a good version (well, better than the original anyways) of Billy Idol's "Dancin' With Myself"

You are right. Don't Dream it's over is a great cover. Thanks and keep them coming.

Nice list!

I really like the In Strict Confidence cover of "Sad But True."

Damn you! I was coming into this thread just to post that.

I was gonna say that one too.

I'll add "This is how it feels" by Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine (CTUSM) originally by The Inspiral Carpets. Good stuff.

Oh, that link reminded me of Mr. T Experience's version of the 60's Spiderman theme song - classic.

Some good songs on the list so far.

I have to add in No Doubts version of It's My Life. I'm really liking it and the video was an interesting take on the song.
