What Did You Think of "The Running Man?"

What did people think? I thought it had a brilliant idea but was pretty boring and silly. I was surprised to hear Arnold say "I'll be back" in this film. He did have a lot of silly yet classic Arnold one-liners.

I agree it was silly, but didn't find it boring. I think it's dumb but entertaining.

Running Man is an OK movie. It surely didn't live up to its potential, and it's not Arnold's greatest. But Ahnold movies are just inherntly fun (well True Lies and before) whether they're good (Predator, T2) or really stupid (commando, raw deal) they're always jsut so much fun.

Definitely Arnold-lite, but still entertaining.

Give it a couple more years, The Running Man will be a reality.

That show where the person is trying to get money while being attacked by dogs could be Fear Factor or heck Big Brother with the dogs being people.

I like the movie although it is not a great movie.

People have been throwing around words lately like "it was ahead of its time". Because of the whole reality TV thing.

Considering the film itself....

It stunk.

The original Stephen King (aka Richard Bachman) story is excellent, and I highly recommend it. The movie adaptation is a very loosely based, pale reflection though. Not good in comparison.

Yeah, I would have loved to see a movie actually based on (rather than "loosely inspired by") the original story. Still, the movie does have its moments.

Everytime I see that movie on cable, I always have to laugh at the end when Arnie and the rebels attack the studio, firing automatic weapons into the studio audience and amazingly hitting only the guards.

Does Richard Dawson have a cameo or is he a supporting player?

I liked Running Man. It reminded me of Mega Man. And anything directed by Starsky (or Hutch) has to be good. hehe. but seriously I thought it was a well-done, dare i say it, popcorn movie.

A thread about Running Man, I have to pipe up. See the signature.

This is a classic Awnold Sci Fi flick. The dialogue between Maria and Arnold alone is worth the purchase.

e.g.

===================================

Amber "Why should I help you?

Ben "Because Im going to say pleeeasssee."

===================================

Amber "Im going to be sick all over you!"

Ben "Go ahead, won't show up on this shirt"

===================================

I love this movie!

Sub-Zero !

Now!

PLAIN ZERO!

Man it sure doesn't take much to please me.

I loved it. A good old fashioned B action movie, with lots of very silly/extremely prescient cultural commentary thrown in. Not great art ... except when compared to Commando, maybe ... but fun.

The same movie made today would have all the cultural commentary ripped out, cost 100 times as much to make, and be half as entertaining.

Ah-nold at the height of the Big Dumb Loud Action Movie wave of the 1980's - pure classic stuff. Dumb as hell with a hint of social commentary, but its fun. You wouldnt get that kind of movie these days.

"He had to split."

Great movie. I'd rather watch it a thousand times over and over without pause rather than having to watch Magnolia agian.

"Total Recall" is better but i always have a soft spot for the cheesy 80's Ah-nuld movies....except maybe "Commando".

I need to buy "Running Man" and watch it again.

Everything in this movie is pretty cool with the exception of Jesse Ventura in a bad toupee and a power rangers outfit.
