It also helps that Bob Smith did a song on the last Blink 182 album, exposure to a new generation, followed closely by the release of their incomplete B-Sides and Rarities Box set, follow this with their first new album in about 5 years and a new tour.

And I've got tickets to their show at Randall's Island. I think it's also got to do with a lot of current bands list The Cure as a major influence, including the bands on the Curiosa Festival - Interpol, The Rapture (listen to this CD and you will immediately think Cure), Mogwai.

Granted, I'm not looking forward to a 50something Robert Smith sweating his makeup and eyeliner off while dressed head to toe in black on an outdoor stage in July in NYC. Not to mention the thousands of fans who may show up dressed the same way. But as much as I've never lived the lifestyle or dressed the part, I love the music and I can't wait to see this show.

Try 40something. He's 45. And what's with the slam on the goth crowd? They're no worse than anyone else standing there sweating in the NYC July heat.

I do like the Cure, but I think at nearly 50 it's time for Smith to dump the tousled hair and mascara look. He really is starting to look like Dame Edna or some kind of aging drag queen.

Wasn't meant to be a slam on the goth crowd, I have several friends who are into it. It's just that I think dressing for comfort is more important than dressing for style. Light colors, light clothing would be my personal choice.

When I saw Lollapalooza 96 also at Randall's Island, the Ramones played, dressed in their trademark head to toe black leather and denim. Their fans and Metallica's fans (some, not all) also dressed similarly. People were getting sick and passing out from the heat.

That said, since I'm as pasty white as your average goth, I'll be sporting the SPF 60 that day. And a hat of some sort, which I never wear.

I'm 35 and have been a fan since 1982. I'm always telling people about my favorite band The Cure. All the new bands listing The Cure as a big influence causes their fans to check out the Cure. The music is good and they get hooked. Just my two cents.

Also, The Cure are also on the soundtrack to Donnie Darko. I saw them at Coachella and they were amazing. But yeah, Robert Smith looked creepy in an old man kind of way with his makeup.

Don't forget the song Pictures of You in the HP commercial was a lot of people's first introduction to the band. I think that was a huge factor.
