Friday the 13th Set Release Date
According to thedigitalbits, Paramount has stated a bunch of release dates for the fall including the Friday the 13th Box set. The set is being called: "Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan - The Ultimate Edition DVD Collection" (the first 8 movies on 5 discs). The release date is September 14th...
I know that alot of you out there are really pissed off about this set because of the lack of unrated cuts and commentaries that we were promised, and that you are just going to go out and buy the already released versions instead of this. But if I were you I would think about this... This set is suppose to street with a MSRP around $99.99, that means that at stores like costco, amazon, and best buy the price will be between $65 and $75. That is alot cheaper that $10.99 X 8 = $88 you will be paying for the single releases, and even though there are no unrated cuts and only 5 commentaries, that is still 5 commentaries that are not on the already released versions...

$99.99 MSRP? When they've squeezed the movies 2 to a disc? Even though that'll get down to $65 or so *real* price I'm not sure if that's enough to warrant buying just for the extras, as I already own all the old editions.

I have held off this long on purchasing them so I will probably wait and see what the final street price is and what everyone things about the new releases before I buy.

Eight movies on five discs? Why? I hope thats not right. It isnt really the ultimate collection if its 8 movies on 5 discs and that must tell us that there wont be much special features. Not even a seperate disc for extras?! Yeah, this box set sucks. It also sucks that Ill probably buy it, because it's all were going to get.

There might be a disc for just Special features...
Disc 1: 1 and 2
Disc 2: 3 and 4
Disc 3: 5 and 6
Disc 4: 7 and 8
Disc 5: Special features?
Disc 1: 1 and 2
Disc 2: 3 and 4
Disc 3: 5 and 6
Disc 4: 7 and 8
Disc 5: Special features?

I'm not a Friday fan, and I've gone from "might have picked up a set of uncut films for a good price" to "well if they're not uncut, they're not even worth my time posting about" to "Paramount has gone so far off the deep end I'm going to make it my personal mission to convince people not to buy this set"
$99.99?! What the frickin hell are they smoking??

Well the 5 discs have now been confirmed. Who wants to dread the rumored extras are also confirmed?
I was hoping Paramount would surprise us with at least a couple uncut films. Yet it seems highly doubtful right now.
But some area bitching that they will not include trailers since trailers were not mentioned. I am pretty sure trailers will be included..just Toolbox(company who did the extra features) does not need to look for them etc. Since they are in paramounts vault..and it is up to Paramount if they are included or not. I am pretty sure, they will be included.
Hopefully the official announcment will lead to some surprises. But we'll see,so far Paramount has not surprised us about anything.

If this were priced at below $50 I would have got it.. but I already own all of them as is, and $99 for a few tiny extras is so not worth it for any film. If they were uncut, that would be a different story, but I already own what looks to be 85% of this box set! What's up with Paramounts' constant price war against the consumer (just look at the Star Trek franchise too!)?

I think I'm going to wait and make my final decission when I'm in the store.
But I find it just a little humorous that they're calling it "The Ultimate Edition"... Let's be honest, with all the lacking points this set has, a more fitting title would be... "Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan - The Best We Felt We Could Do Edition DVD Collection

I;m still on the fence about this. The only "Jason" movies is Jason goes to Hell and Jason X. I'm waiting to see what the real prices are in store and online first.

$99??? :0
Now, if this was some bang up set with all restored footage, etc. it would be justified. Those things do cost money, but can be done.
But, $99 for direct ports from the outrageous priced barebones editions from years ago with some interviews???
I will be passing.
But, I will give Paramount a chance. Maybe, just maybe they will come shining through. But, have they ever before?

I do have to say Paramount calling this the Ultimate Collection is a little too cornball for me.
It's like they are the court jesters who continue to crack jokes and end up squirting water in their face.

I actually can't wait. So far, no extras have been officially anounced, but I heard atleast 4 audio commentaries (for 3, 6-8) uncut scene comparisons, interviews, an extensive feature documentary, and rumored are two more audio commentaries for 1 and 4. I'm in.
Some people think this will be like Alien Quadrilogy, and maybe it should, but I'm happy. Personally, I want and don't see no reason why not, that all eight films have audio commentaries. Why wouldn't Savini or Sean cunningham do one? Atleast have 1-4, those are the most important ones in the series. So far, nothing new about part 5. This is where the director or studio could come clean about the "black sheep" of the series, like Alien3. I would love an option like Freddy's Dead to have Part 3 in the original 3-D.
