I've never been much into the punk scene. That being said, I do enjoy music by The Clash. They just seemed to do so much more with the actual music than the other two. Your opinions?

Definitely the Clash. They were all over the map, musically (and able to pull it off). Plus, London Calling is one of the best albums ever.

The Sex Pistols sound terrible to me and, well, I've never really been into the Ramones much.

The Clash. I love the Ramones, but the Clash meant way more to the punk movement.

I went with The Clash. I love The Ramones though. I never understood the appeal of The Sex Pistols. They were too out there for me. I watched Sid and Nancy a couple pf times trying to get The Sex Pistols but I still don't like their musid. Pioneers yes but very overrated.

I didn't like the clash, and I like the Ramones but their songs all sound too similar.

The Clash weren't a punk band, maybe their first album but that's it.

The first three Ramones albums and Nevermind the Bollocks... are also some of the best albums ever.

Muslcally, the Clash definitely has the edge, as they could actually play, but for attitude and cool tunes, I gotta go with the Pistols! I like some Ramones, but it's a little too repetitive for my tastes.

The question wasn't which band was the most talented (Clash), made the highest quality music (again, Clash), or was more relevant in the punk movement (now that's a tossup 'twixt the Pistols and the Ramones). The question was who do you enjoy listening to the most. For me, that would be the Ramones. Big fun. My ears are still ringing from the last Ramones concert I attended about 15 years ago.

I'll have to vote for the Sex Pistols. Never mind the bollocks is an amazing album. ive heard it a million times and still love it. The recording and mix on that album is just classic. Its so punk yet so pop. The Ramones are great, but just a different version of 'punk'. Same with the Clash, which almost seem to be kind of 'post punk' before punk was in full swing. The Ramones and Clash grew and changed their sound while the Sex Pistols only released one real album which is kind of like a slice of the times.
I'd have to put Never Mind the Bollocks up with the Josey and Pussycats soundtrack as 2 of the best 'non-pop pop' albums.

I do not get the fascination with The Clash. To me everything sounds very uncreative and like-sounding. And the singer sounds like he is always drunk. I was very disappointed listening to them after all of the hype I have heard over the years.

Well, one's love for a particular artist is a very personal thing and can't really be explained adequately, either you like them or you don't. However, if I were to try to intellectually describe my love for or admiration of The Clash's music, I would say that they were their era's equivalent of The Beatles. By that I mean that they took everything that was going on in popular music up to that time, assimilated it, and made something new and original from it. The Beatles took rockabilly, doo-wop, show tunes, country and western, Motown-era R&B, and created a new and original sound. The Clash did something very similar with punk, Stones-y rock and roll, reggae, hip-hop, New Orleans-style R & B, ska, glam-rock, etc.

Now, either you like Strummer's voice or you don't. There's just no getting around it - it was a distinctive, primal voice that served their music well, but certainly isn't the loveliest instrument God ever created.

I love all three but would the give the edge to the Clash.

The Ramones.

To me, the Ramones were a great rock n' roll band, the Sex Pistols were an artistic statement, and The Clash....defied all definition.

A lot of bands try to evolve and to venture out into different musical genres, but a lot of times to me it ends up sounding like the decision came from the head, and not the heart (i.e., U2 playing the blues)--but with The Clash, it seemed like they never got overpowered by their influences (which were many)----whatever style they played, it just sounded and felt like The Clash.

i don't like to jump on the bandwagon much... but i couldn't have said that better myself.
