I'm surprised I haven't heard people mention this one much on this forum, especially considering the popularity of Creek Drank the Cradle. I have really grown to like the new record, but I am not fond of the production style.

Any love? Hate? Anybody seeing them live?

Yes. You must rush out and buy Creek Drank the Cradle immediately.

I'm totally loving the new Iron & Wine album.

Sure, the production is glossier than Creek Drank the Cradle, but you really couldn't expect this guy to release another album of homemade demos, right? Change is nice, and it adds a great dimension to Sam Beam's spectacular songwriting talents. Our Endless Numbered Days is definitely the natural step forward for this guy. Put on this record at night, follow it with Sufjan Stevens' new one, and you got a nice relaxed mood set for yourself!

And with three NYC-area performances coming up, I'm sure to have my fill of Iron & Wine sweetness in June!

He's actually touring a bit with Stevens in Europe.

I understand what you're saying about the production, but it's not just the production I'm not fond of. I don't think the songwriting on some of these tracks is as strong. Golly gee, "Sodom, South Georgia" is awesome, though.

I have really wanted to hear this. I went to film school with Sam Beam. Well actually I was volunteering before I got in when he was there, but I worked with him several times. He is a real nice guy and a hell of a cinematographer. His directing efforts were really great also. Anyway, I hear the music is sedate, but really good.

Sedate is a good word for it.

Was he a quiet guy in school? I interviewed him a few weeks ago and found that it was difficult to get him to say much.
