My friend recommended this to me awhile ago, and I finally got around to seeing it last week. Me, being a Tarintino fan, had to check it out. 3 other director's worked on it along with him, and his portion of the film was the best IMO. Each of the four directors, directed one of the rooms, which made up a scene, hence the name... Four Rooms. I believe this is Tarintino's only official comedy, is that correct?

Anyways, I thought it was actually quite good. At some points, I just can't stand Tim Roth's acting, but I suppose that's part of the old-fashioned style of this movie.

First room only seemed like it was there for sex appeal, not that that's a bad thing. 2nd room was funny, but in more of a dark way. The 3rd room was very entertaining. Good plot and finish. The 4th, clearly the best, was perfect. If you put aside the fact that it sounds like Quentin is making all of his lines up as he goes along.

I had never heard of this movie until recently, and never hear anybody here mention it. So I thought everyone should check it out, especially those who loved Quentin's others. Overall, I'd give it an 8/10.

Since this is DVDtalk... has there ever been any word about a Special Edition? The current release is barebones, and some extras and director's commentary would be nice.

Yeah, he mentioned that during the scene, probably not to get bashed for stealing it. Are any of the Hitchcock episodes out on video or DVD, particularly that one?

Edit: Apparently it's only on DVD through the Boxed Set. I guess there's some VHS's floating around too. I'll check it out sometime, thanks!

I liked it for the most part.

Although it's pretty hated by many, I love the second half of it, as well as pretty much every scene with Tim Roth. I remember when I saw it in the theater (on Christmas night I believe), I was really impressed with how long QT kept the camera going in his room before making the first cut. It's an odd flick, but I have fun watching it.

I thought the Robert Rodriguez segment blew everything else in the movie away. I barely remember the first and third story. The Tarantino segment was excruciatingly irritating, but I have to admit the punchline in the last three seconds was one of the funniest things I'd seen in years.

I worth checking out just to satisfy curiosity.

I saw it twice in the theatre - I liked it, mostly.

I found the second segment to be uninspired and unfunny - and I saw the feature it was based on and it too was uninspired and dull.

Rodriguez's segment was great - pre-dating the Spy Kids series it showed he could work well with the children.

QT's segment was of course a rip-off of a Hitchcock story - but it was fun too, as Quentin got to poke fun of his Hollywood image.

I believe the current DVD is non-anamorphic and bare-bones, which has kept it from my collection.

I laugh uncontrollably at the "Don't Misbehave" one. The rest of the pieces are really bad though.

I love Four Rooms. I'm a huge Tarantino fan so his segment is definately my favorite. The Rodriguez segment is also classic (I can't stand him now, but he was in his prime back then.) The first segment has plenty of useless nudity and Tim Roth always cracks me up so I have no problem sitting through it. The second is the weakest but goes by fast if you're into the movie. Certainly much better than the reviews make it out to be and any fan of Tarantino and pre-Faculty Rodriguez should certainly give it a good look.

I saw it in a VERY packed theater. It was only showing at one theater in my area, and I guess lots of people wanted to see it that night . I didn't care for the witches bit, but enjoyed the others, especially the misbehavers.

The best parts for me were the Rodriguez segment, the end of the Tarantino segment and Alicia Witt being nearly topless in the first segment.

If the Rodriguez segment is the one with Banderas (the kids that find the body), then Groucho & Crocker hit the nail on the head. The other three are completely forgettable, including 90% of the Tarantino segment.

Saw it years ago, dont really remember it....so it couldnt have been that good. Maybe the parts with Tim Roth, i always find him amusing.

I love Tim Roth. he was good in it. The witches segment is dreadful, the 2nd segment is decent, rodriguez's segment is great and tarantino's segment is good, the ending is perfect. Dont' know if i would watch this movie many more times than once though.

To anybody that wants to know more about this movie, and the considerable speed bumps it had during post-production, please read the Peter Biskind book, "Down and Dirty Pictures : Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film"

The book goes into horrific detail on what a prick Quentin was, and how Harvey backed him up all the way since he was Miramax’s star pony at the time.

A must read for all film fans.

I agree - as a whole, it was a waste of talent, IMO.

saw this for the first time tonight and wondered WTF I was watching during the first two rooms other than some real bad softcore porn and David Lynch parody ... rooms 3 and 4 made it worth the watch but barely

Funny you should bump this. Last night, I took advantage of Netflix to watch the Tarantino segment again, and I was impressed by how it plays like a blueprint for Inglorious Basterds--very long takes of a real time conversation for fifteen or twenty minutes that ends in abrupt violence.

10 year bump. That has to be a record, yeah?

The part I always remember from this movie is the bet to light the lighter 10 times in a row and it doesn't light on the very first try. *chop*, grab money, walk out. I thought that was hysterical when I saw it since you expect him to get at least 3 or 4 lights before losing the bet.
