I was more impressed by the teaser trailer than the version up at Yahoo. The new trailer is meh. It still looks like a great movie though.

While I wouldn't say it looks amazing, I will say that it looks good. However, I'm a little tired of the sword-and-sandal epic thing. Ever since Gladiator there seems to have been an abundance of them, and the next 2 years looks to bring quite a few more. I'll probably see it, but I'm not that excited about it. Brad Pitt just doesn't look right in the role of Achilles, but having Peter O'Toole and Brian Cox couldn't hurt.

Huh?

How many sword-and-sandal epic movies have come out since Gladiator? I'm wracking my mind, but I can't think of any.

I'm with you on this one. I can't think of any others, either, and I don't know of any that are in production (I could be wrong, though). I also don't really know how this is going to be similar to Gladiator in any way. I'm not extremely familiar with the story, but I'm pretty positive that the sword and sandal thing is about all it will have in common.

As for the film itself, I'm really excited. I've never been able to get into the Illiad (or the Odyssey for that matter) so I'm looking forward to seeing it played out. I can't wait.

I can't believe they're spending that much money on a film about a quaterback. OK, he won a few Super Bowls, but I think it's a bad idea. They should at least release it during football season where it would have a better chance of making money. And I didn't know Aikman was Greek!

But every character in the movie is Brad's size! Banna, Bloom (it'll be funny to see him shoot that arrow), etc... Achilles is supposed to be the biggest/strongest/barbaric character of the group.

It looks decent. I think the only down part is that they used a good-looking male cast. Brad Pitt.....come on. Maybe I'm just not a fan of him, but his looks kinda detracts from the movie or the realism. He looked a little too clean cut the trailer. It's like watching Gladiator again but this time, Russell Crowe shaves his face. Maybe it's for the women audience I guess. They have Orlando Bloom too so all the teenage girls will like that too.

Not true at all. Ajax is the biggest and strongest.

Achillies greatness as a warrior was predicated on the fact that his mother dipped him (by his heel) in the River Styx and he became impervious to harm....except for one small spot.

There is nothing in the Iliad to suggest Achillies was anything more than normal-sized. His lineage as the son of Thetis, a Neried, made him noble and his reputation as a relentless and bloodthirsty invincible warrior made men fear him. In fact, his friend was killed because Hector thought he was Achilles - Achilles was the same size as other Greeks. I think Pitt is a perfect choice to play Achilles.

Now, Bloom is a little wimpy looking to me....Iliad Characters

I think that was how the Romans and Greeks soldiers looked then. They had their hair cut very short and were clean-shaven so that if they were captured in battle, the enemy could not grab and pull their hair/beards, etc.
