I am already getting the new Divimax which I know is the preferred and original theatrical, but how is the other? Does it include some extra gore? or some stuff that is just neat and extra?

Does it have some good collector's quality value to it..not so much $, but fan wise? Any help or commentswould be appreciated. Thanks.

i can't remember the DC beyond one early scene that is basically expositional
(getting their transportation).
its deletion doesn't take anything away from the film, but its inclusion was just another nice scene (for me) that showed the state and mood of things from another angle when the story opens.
the rest of the additions are mostly just little character moments.

the film is one of those rare ones that works in all the versions i've seen.
i have no particular preferences for one over the other- but i love the film, the setting, the characters, the situation so much- that the added moments are just icing on the cake.
if you are picking up the older disc to get the DC, i would probably just hold off for the mega set.
by all means check out the new disc next week- but the a/v on the old disc isn't up to the newer level from what i hear.
unless your paying about $5 for it, i would just wait.

Hmm, since I've never seen the DC and have seen the TC many times AND have never seen the part you mentioned, you are probably correct.

Technically, the long cut is not a director's cut. It's an early version quickly put together for Cannes.

it might be scandalous to say, but I have only seen the Dario Argento cut once, but I found his version superior in nature, tighter editing and Goblin's score more prominent.

You can never have enough Goblin - those guys are great!

I've seen all the versions, and they all work, but I prefer the theatrical cut. Thats the version that I grew up with and I think it has the best pacing and best combination of Goblin and library music.

I don't know what marketing guy decided to call the long cut of Dawn the "Director's Cut." Romero has stated on many occasions that the theatrical cut is his director's cut. The long cut should be called the "Cannes Workprint" because that's exactly what it is. The Argento cut is "Zombi."

The longer version has a breast shot of the main female. At least I think that's the version- I had it on letterboxed VHS, and it's definitely not in the theatrical version. You do know that they're releasing a multi-disc version later this year that will probably have all versions?

What is the difference in running time between all these versions? How many versions are there?

My biggest gripe about the 'Director's Cut' was that a lot of the music was changed. Especially in the opening, changing what I think is the best opening scene of any film into an opening that's just 'pretty good'.

I agree. That version was cobbled together before Romero had a chance to add some of the Goblin music, especially the great theme that should have appeared at the beginning.

how long is Argento's dc of the movie? i hear his theatrical version is like 117, and the dc is somewhere between 140 and 150 min, while romero's dc is about 140.
