FOX picks up R1 DVD rights to The Passion Of The Christ: Your Thoughts

DVDANSWERS is reporting that FOX has picked up Home Video rights to Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ. I think this could be both good and bad news for the DVD (more good than bad though). I am sure TCFHE will handle the film's DVD release well. My only worry is that they might possibly do like they (and a few other stupid studios have done) are doing with Master and Commander.

If you're talking about the new tread of $40 SE's, I'm sick of that also. What a rip-off.

TCFHE... Jesus, wouldn't it have been easier to just write FOX?

As for my thoughts? Well someone had to pick it up and I'm sure it was a hot auction with it's opening box office take in. It's much to early to tell if this has any bad to it.

I'm only buying it if it has full bitrate DTS Aramaic.

As long as they give it a decent SE, I don't care who puts it out.

This ensures a good picture quality treatment at least in my book. A must buy for me. I hope they come up with a full-blown SE esp in regard to the filming process.

Good news for me (considering that it could have been some second rate company like First Look).

Will Gibson rush this to video or will he sit on it and release it to theaters every year (or maybe every three years or something) at Easter or Ash Wednesday?

What made you choose the bassoon over the oboe?

Before it even came out, I was expecting a November or December release for two reasons:

1) It is Christmas, the birth of Christ, so it would only make sense to release it at that time.

2) To remind all of the critics about the film for The Golden Globes and The Oscars.

But, now I'm not so sure. Rumor has it that a release is expected in late summer or early fall. So there's no telling.

Maybe it'll come out for Christmas.

Fox does a bang-up job with DVDs. This is happy news.

Who's the theatrical distributor?

I'm curious if something could be a done for an Easter release, maybe even a barebones version.

They probably make it a 2-disc SE with a spine number, so all the spin # collectors will buy.

Hmm... Easter is only five weeks away...

I doubt this'll be out of first run theatres by that time.

Matt, you're killing me my friend ...why are you so interested in my professional choice?

Well, I started playing the piano at the age of 5. When I was 13 I went to Italy and saw a symphony concert that made a huge impact on me. After the concert I went backstage and my mother introduced me to the wind players. I loved the dark sound of the bassoon....the deep redish colors...the shiny keys....it was love at first sight. The rest of it is history.....

How's that for an answer....

Cheer's mate,

I wonder how much Fox had to shell out for the rights to distribute the DVD?
