$59.98 List price for 8 Episodes! This is a 2 disc set.

If you buy you're letting Universal know they can gouge the fans that support these types of cult TV Shows on DVD.

$59.98 is currently the standard for 20 - 24 episode DVD releases.

Complain to Universal now and don't buy this until the priced comes down, otherwise expect to pay $150 for the later seasons!

60 bucks MSRP means you'll be able to buy it for 35-40 bucks on release day. That's a reasonable price - not great, but one that's reasonable.

And have you seen the bright orange parka it comes wrapped in? Horrid!

I don't send a letter to OPEC everytime the price at the pump increases, so I don't think I'll be sending a letter to Universal either. Life's too short to complain about every product that retails for more than I want to pay. If I don't like the price, I just don't buy.

Buy it used in a few months.

It really is a damnable situation.

If you stand on principle and refuse to pay the asking price, sales will likely stall and future releases may not occur.

On the other hand, if you bite the bullet and willingly pay the excessive price, you may be assuring the release of future seasons.

It really does assume the form of blackmail, in a way. Pay the extorter and live with the consequences of that choice, or refuse to pay and live with the resulting consequences of that choice.

As for me........I'll be pitchforking my hay into Universal's barn come May. The short-term pain (more money out of pocket) is worth the long-term gain (future NX releases).

Pretty lame price for a cool series.

Got the R2 disc of this months ago for about 30 bucks. Transfer was mediocre but the series was just too special to let it slip away. I agree with the philosophy of bardevious - pay now, get more later. I want all but the last season, when Joel left the show for "greater" things.

While $60 is a bit high in comparison to other sets, you have to add a little for the unique and probably costly packaging (albeit goofy looking). Only worth a rental from Netflix IMHO. . .

On the other hand, to have acquired the first season on LaserDisc back in the day would have cost you about $120 (if all the episodes were even released??). . . While occasionally the prices of some titles seem out of line, compared to what we had to pay for LDs, DVD prices are a blessing!! Case in point, the Complete Classic Honeymooners set back LD buyers $250 for two box sets ($200 on sale). I picked up the same material (in better quality) for $34 at Costco. Lion King LD box set $125, DVD $20; Star Wars Trilogy theatrical cuts $225 on LD, on DVD . . . oops ;-)

$42 at amazon (with STL comes out to $38), $39 at DDD.

I wonder if the high MSRP was due to the music rights hassle they must have gone through. Anyway, at that price, I can comfortably buy it because I want it and I want more to come out.

That is the same price as Quantum Leap for 9 episodes. It is a bit ridiculous. But you have to figure these are shows that will sell only to a small group of consumers, unlike Friends or X-files which have huge followings. So they have to make thier money back on their investment. It isn't even like 24 either which was cheap so that they could gain new viewers for current seasons.

This price point just eliminates those on the fence about buying.

For people who think the parka sucks, well toss it aside when you get. The dvds are in a normal case inside the parka. I actually like it and rarely like unique packaging.

It's a fun show, but I'm not paying that much for it. Hopefully the price will go down, doesn't come out for a while yet.

But but but it comes w/ the cool parka case. Maybe I'll just get it from costco and return it less the parka. muahahha

I don't understand the dislike of the case here. On the International DVD board, people are wondering why region one doesn't see more creative box set packaging when packaging like this is pretty common place in other regions. Price issues aside, I am glad somebody is trying to come up with creative packaging here, but as for why most studios don't try it, I am beginning to understand why, as it seems most people just complain about anything not in a typical keep case.

It is a no-win situation. However, anyone who pays $60 for this set kind of deserves to pay $60, since you can pre-order it from amazon for $40 & there's no tax or shipping.

Costco is charging $36.99, and that's likely going to be the price at their stores. So anyone with a membership can get it on or near the release date for Amazon's price.

I would love for them to put out all or most of the seasons, but I certainly hope that they price subsuquent seasons a little leaner per-episode.

This is an offbeat show with a limited following. If one loves the show and really wants to own it, then one will pay the price, which while high, is not beyond anyone's means who collects DVD's. This is not a ripoff. It is the free market working well.

Why do people over react to list price so badly when they know they will be able to find it online or in stores for much, much cheaper?

I'm paying $37.79 for Quantum Leap with STL on Amazon.

I am also amazed at the number of people upset about this price. If you've been on this board any length of time there are a few things you should know:
1) Always use a question mark when asking a question
2) Ignore the MSRP.....It can be had for much less around release day

I thought about getting this set and I didn't pass on it because of the creative packaging or the "inflated" price....I had to pass because there just a few other shows I want more. But I'll have to get this later on.
