Impromptu Jam Band Festival in Las Vegas: April 15-17

It seems that after Phish announced thier "Three-of-a-Kind" Vegas run, the jam band community is scurrying to shore up venues and dates for those three days.

Confirmed bands:

moe. (House of Blues - Mandalay Bay)
Psychedelic Breakfast
Gov't Mule
Particle

Anyone hear of any others?

The Las Vegas Jam Band Society has to be creaming their shorts over this. Gdrlv, you excited yet?

Incredibly so. Haven't had a chance to see Psychedelic Breakfast yet...so I'll try to catch at least one of their shows. Gonna have to catch moe. at least once (preferably twice). Man, I'm gonna need a vacation to recover from that weekend.

I do think moe. should have picked a place bigger than the HOB (which only holds 12-1500). They could've filled up a 3000 or so seat theater quite nicely.

Can't friggin' wait.

Well, aren't you just hilarious.

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever, isn't it Cardiff Giant?

I'm committed to Phish and moe. all three nights. I would love to see some of those other bands, but not over my two favorites.

moe. tickets went on sale today through moe.ticketing by the way... (moe.org for details)

I think moe. could fill up a 3000 seat theatre on their own, at a normal time, but probably not after Phish at 1:00 AM. And even if they could, from all accounts, the H.O.B. is a killer place to see a moe. show.

I'm happy either way!

Wow for someone who has obviously seen the movie, apparently you don't appreciate a good Spinal Tap reference. I wasn't trying to thread crap but I guess you just made that assumption.

Bust - I've seen moe. twice at the HOB in Vegas (unfortunately, neither time was after the Phish shows last year), and yes, it's a great place to see the band. Then again, there's really not a bad place to see moe. I agree it's hard to get excited about any of the other secondary bands when they're competing with moe. However, I've heard so much about Psych Breakfast, and they never play out this way. Should I skip 'em for a third day of moe.?

Cardiff Giant - If you weren't threadcrapping, my apologies, but it looked like you were just trying to insult Phish and the like to me. As an indie rock and alt-country geek that constantly needs to feel the need to justify my love for the jamband scene, I get defensive. By the way, you won't find bigger and more passionate lovers of music anywhere than among the jamband crowd...genres be damned. I once spent an entire Phish setbreak discussing Hella, Okkervil River, Johnny Cash and Camper Van Beethoven with some random girl.

By the way, I've probably seen Spinal Tap more than any other movie...best comedy ever made IMO.

Gdrlv,
No problem. The internet isn't always the best at making jokes since there's no way to read the persons inflection.
I was just suprised that you got the reference but thought I was badmouthing jam bands. While I am not a huge jam band fan, I've heard a good amount of jam bands on XM 51 the XM music lab (which is a mix of progressive rock, a favorite genre of mine, and jam bands). Some of the jam band songs are very cool. My good friend and one of my former college suitemates were big Phish fans so I've heard a good deal of their stuff and, while they're not my favorite band, I definitely enjoy some of their stuff. Hell, we even had the Phish Almanac in our bathroom for a while in college
Anyhow, glad we cleared up the misunderstanding. I'm with you, there are very few musical genres I can't appreciate(hip hop is really the only one I have trouble with). Anywhere where talented musicians are getting together playing music is A OK in me book.

Bust - How'd you do in the ticket lottery. I got Thursday and Friday. Will be searching for Saturday.

Also, missed the moe. online ordering. Gonna have to try to pick up tickets for them through HOB.

Zero for three...

I'm paranoid that I'm now on the PTBM shit list because I sold an extra Boston on ebay and I'm sure they saw the auction and checked my email address against their records.

You get any extras? I'd KILL for at least one MO before I try UNLV. Speaking of which, you feel like like hanging out at the box office next Saturday morning?

No extras...sorry. Two tix for each show, and I've got a college buddy coming into town for the shows (he was 0 for 3 as well). I'm sure to be at the T&M boxoffice early Saturday morning though...not planning on missing Saturday's show...

I actually have no Paypal account. You may do okay on the web/phone, but if you don't wanna take that chance, email me, and we'll figure something out.

That's okay, I don't want to be a pain. I'll just take my chances on the website. I'm sure I'll get tickets somehow.

Damn, the UNLV website was a freaking nightmare. I did finally end up with two for each night after an hour cryptic error pages, false shopping carts, failed check-outs, etc...

People had posted "back-door" links all over several Phish message boards, and they were what was giving me trouble. After 50 minutes of them failing me, I just closed all my browsers, reset my cookies, and started at their main page and was checked out less than 10 mintues later.

How did you do in line? I heard the lines at the T&M were crazy. Are you surprised how fast this sucker sold out? Apparently the moe. shows are sold out already also. Glad I got my tickets for them early.

So now I've also had the good fortune to get my hands on a pair of mail order Phish tickets for the first night. Which I'm stoked about. This weekend seriously can't come fast enough!!!

The T&M line was pretty crazy...I got there at 6am, and there were already hundreds of people lined up. Ended up with my Saturday tickets though, so I'm not complaining. The line was actually a blast. Drank Irish coffees and talked music for hours with the kind folks in line behind me.

Unfortunately, I wasn't as on the ball for moe. No tickets for any night. I'm thinking about going to see Umphrey's McGee at the Rio, and I hear that Del the Funky Homosapien is doing a late night party at the Boston.

Particle and Govt Mule have released their Offical Dates and they will not be in Vegas. However, Umphreys Mcgee is confirmed at The Club Rio at the Rio Hotel & Casino. (04/16/2004)

The (Psychedelic) Breakfast have not confirmed Vegas as of yet.

It's looking like I'll be at this show also, as my friend can't get a ticket for moe. that night, and he has two tickets for Umph.
