Congratulations RotK, $1b strong.

Total as of Feb. 22, 2004: $361,118,934
+ Overseas Gross: $644,261,478 / 60 countries

Total: $1,005,380,412

(Overseas Gross isn't fully officiated until Tuesday, so that will be the official time for them to celebrate making beaucoup $$, 99% chance there isn't a $5m+ error though)

"You're my shiny silver medal."

I have nothing better to do tonight

That is quite a feat. Just to think a few years ago it was the biggest gamble in box office history. Way to go.

Wow. I say again, wow. In retrospect it seems to realize people were predicting this would close a whole studio, wreck Peter Jackson's career and kill the fantasy genre once and for all.

And the film is not close to being done earning...

...thank you Professor Tolkien, thank you Wingnut Films, and thank you New Line.

It was only a matter of time...

We should have a Lucas Atomic Clock - it calculates the amount of time in each thread it takes for Lucas to be mentioned.

Total for all three movies (arguably one big movie split into three movies) $2,800,000,000+

Not a bad haul.

If you count the grosses of LOTR as one movie, then it HAS beaten Titanic by a billion.

That is an accomplishment, no denying it. Let's hope the academy gives this small little underdog of a movie a chance.

But it's not. It's 3 movies that were released in as many years with 6 years of inflation going for it, while Titanic was just one movie that hasn't even had a re-release (as far as I know anyway).

And that no matter how fantastic a movie may be, there will always be someone that doesn't like it.

True. The three movies are basically a 10 hour movie that everyone had to pay three times to see it in it's entirety, so it would be safe to assume if it was shown in one shot it would've made one billion total.

People will pay for quality, and that is what the LotR movies have given us. I have sceen all three movies (each movie twice) in the theater and I own both versions (Standard and EE) of the movies on DVD.

Question 1: Does anyone know how much money the actors are getting now that the movie has gone over 1 billiion?

Question 2: Do the actors get any money when the DVDs are released? I know that the Director will get some cash, but I am not sure about the actors.
