Help needed in finding songs popular during college years

Okay, you're probably wondering why I can't remember what exactly was popular in those years, but I never was much for popular music. However, when I can download them for a small fee, I can get the songs I would only listen to once or twice.
Basically, I just want to make some CDs for the sake of nostalgia's sake. To do this I guess you would need to know the years I was in school.

1995-1996 Freshman Year
Tracks I have decided on:
-Ironic
-You Oughta Know-both Alanis Morrissette
-Till I hear it from You-Gin Blossoms
-A Girl Like You-Edwyn Collins
-Carnival-Natalie Merchant
-Runaround
-But Anyway-Blues Traveler
-California Love-2 Pac -only there because I remember hearing it everywhere I went.
Just a few more recommendations from those who remember!

1996-1997 Sophomore year
-Okay, not much I really paid attention to here, just need some stuff that is available through Napster, and it seems that Paula Cole's "Cowboy" song is nowhere to be found. I really don't want to get the Spice Girls debut either. I do know I will go with Savage Garden's "I Want You" song though.

I'll leave the other years up to you, since I really more or less tuned out aside from a few radio listens here and there for 97-98 and 98-99.
After my undergrad years, I pretty much all but foresook popular music and turned to classic/hard rock and oldies type music.
Appreciate any insight you can offer!

Or younger... I've never heard of anyone getting "nostalgic" over Alanis Morrissette.

I know, but I looked under all of the Paula Cole songs and it wasn't to be found.

Does Napster have a limit with the songs it carries, despite the fact that we must pay now? I was looking for the "Hero" song from Spider-Man and several songs from Cruel Intentions and couldn't find them. I am wondering if Sony doesn't put its music on Napster at all.

maybe, check a used cd store, or look for a ninetys hit collection used for some of the songs.

She only had one or two sorta hits on the "alt" charts, but IIRC she is the sister of Mark Danielewski the author of House of Leaves. One of her records I think has songs inspired by that book too.
