Starsailor - live: Wow!
Just saw them perform live last Saturday night and was very impressed. Even though I have seen before at the 9:30 club after the release of their first album and at V2002 music festival in England- they certainly can play their songs with intensity and flair. While the new album isn't a daring step forward, it can be best summarized as "Love is Here Part II", I for one really like their second album: "Silence is Easy".
The standout track off the album and in concert was "Four To The Floor"
The closing song (before the encores) was a fantastic over the top rendition of "Good Souls"
Lead singer James Walsh did a couple of cover songs: including U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" and Springsteen's "Thunder Road" - which I personally felt was a tad unecesarry considering the band could have played more songs off their first album. On the whole I am glad their second album is getting a proper US release this coming Tuesday - complete with two extra songs (culled off of recent UK singles).

I saw them in Boston Giles, and they were indeed good, a very relaxed performance.
It seems like the U2 Song is a popluar one, they recorded it on bbc radio 1.
Support in Boston was Jonathan Rice who was quite fun, and downed most of a bottle of wine during his acoustic set

Why did Tim Burgess pull out as opener? He was originally announced as such.

I'm glad you posted this, otherwise I would have missed them on this tour. I'd been checking for tour dates for them for quite a while, but I hadn't looked for a few months. Thanks for the post.
I didn't like the new album nearly as much as the first, but it's growing on me.

I didn't even know they were on tour, guess I have been living under a rock. However, I would love to see a live version of "Four to the Floor" -- it is my favorite track off SIE.
Have they had any shows in Houston?

from the man himself:
" Hello Everyone & Happy New Year,
Thanks to all of you that have supported my record,
came to the shows & got yer self one of those cool,
'Never Too Drunk To Funk' t-shirts!!!
So, first off, I really need to clear up some
scheduled tour dates... I am really sorry I missed the
2 shows at Earl's Court on the 16th & 17th of
December. The reason, I couldn't perform at those 2
particular shows was because of a personal family
misfortune amongst a member in my band...
As for the US Starsailor gigs starting on the 15th of
January, well that's a complicated one... but mainly
it's due to schedule conflicts & the fact that,
'I Believe' has not yet been released in America. It's
difficult to tour when you don't have a record out
there to reference & support...
I am good friends with Starsailor & have always had
the best times whilst being on the road with them. I
truly appreciate the offering to play with them & am
really upset about not being able to make this tour.
My most sincere apologies go out to Starsailor & to
all of you that were expecting to see me in the states
this time around...
I will have to make it up in the early part of the
year...!
Also be on the look out for a new Charlatans record
due out early next year.

So, 2004 - let's have some more - more peace,
happiness & good music!"
Much Cheers, Tim

That was very dissappointing to me, as I was looking forward to his show.
