No, it's not fixable, and it only occurs on single chip DLP machines.

I have a the Sharp 10k in my theater which has the HD2 chipset. I have seen it once and have had others see it briefly.
It cannot be "fixed" but it most definitely bothers some people more than others.

I have a Samsung DLP and have seen the rainbows a few times. It usually only happens when I'm quickly glancing at the TV. I don't think I've seen them at all when I'm directly viewing the TV.
The best thing to do is go view one of these DLP sets and see if you see them. Some people do, but I think it's a very small minority. Kind of like the people that might have seizures from playing video games; a very small number.

The Sharp 10k is still a single chip DLP, not a 3-chip.

The HD2 chipset (Mustang) with its faster color wheel has been shown to have less reported instances of rainbow in the image.

I was going to go with a DLP Generation1 chip front projector at first, but after viewing some rainbow effects, I felt it would be better for myself and others to just go with a LCD front projector. I'm sure glad I did.
