Which parts of ROTK movie were in the TT book?

As the title said, where is the break between the TTT & ROTK books? I know PJ left some TTT scenes to be shown in ROTK. I definatly think when Gandalf gets to Sauramon's tower, that was in the TTT book.

The whole Shelob sequence with Frodo and Sam was in TTT. ROTK began with Sam going to rescue Frodo from the orc tower.

Since the spider scene was in TTT, I assumed it would happen early in ROTK...I'm guessing Jackson really played around with the timeline of events, since Shelob doesn't show up until the midway point of the film

actually, pj explains this in TTT commentary. he says that the shelob scene actually takes place at the same time as the battle for gondor. he mentioned something about the hobbits seeing the battle from the mountainside...or something like that.

so, if he's correct, which is likely, he's chronologically correct.

There's a chronology of events in Appendix B of the book. Excerpting only the parts that appear in the film, we have:

March 11 - Denethor sends Faramir to Osgiliath.
March 12 - Gollum leads Frodo into Shelob's lair.
March 13 - Frodo captured by the Orcs of Cirith Ungol. Faramir is wounded.
March 14 - Samwise finds Frodo in the Tower. Minas Tirith is beseiged.
March 15 - Denethor burns himself on a pyre. Battle of the Pelennor. Theoden is slain. Frodo and Samwise escape and begin their journey north along the Morgai.

So, though Jackson condensed the chronology somewhat, he was correct in putting Shelob midway through ROTK, rather than at the end of TTT.
