Jackson isn't furious that they put in an intermission. In fact, he's specified where an intermission should go if there is one.

See:

Oh, and the movie runs 3:20:49.

I don't care. 3+ hours flowed by for me. I could've sat through another 2 1/2 hours and I went to a 12:01a showing.

We got out around 3: 30 am..

I could've used an intermission, so that I wouldn't have to either hold in my pee or miss part of the film (I held it in so as not to miss part of the film).

I agree, though, that the time flew by. Jackson's said that there's an hour of shot and finished but cut footage from ROTK, and that he expects at least half of it to make its way to the Extended Edition DVD.

I think the "rough cut" was really 4:15 -- sure there may have been more snippets, but I think they "considered" and watched a 4:15 version. Now, that may have been without credits.

It didn't bug me at all that there wasn't an intermission. I counted 2 people that got up to go to the bathroom during ROTK, while more than 50 people got up to go during the EE of FOTR and TTT. I think it might have worked in Peter Jackson's favor to not have the intermission because it keeps the movie flowing and doesn't let you stop to catch your breath.

Ok, new topic, but fits with this one.

HAD there been an intermission, when should it have been?

(hard to remember when the middle of the film was... but when the "call went out to Rohan" and we see all the pyres lighting, then a fade to black and intermission, that might have been cool - but it may also have been way too early in the movie, and before enough "action" had occurred.

So for those with a better time sense - WHEN, had there been one?

Ok, serious attempt at this:

Maybe when Aragorn breaks from the Rohirrim to go into the Valley of the Dead?
