My Bloody Valentine (I don't care how old you are, what types of music you like or what planet you're from, everyone should own Loveless. It's better than great.)
The Shins (both dics - Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow - are great. Chutes slightly gets the nod from me.)
Super Furry Animals (start with Guerilla or Phantom Power)
Grandaddy (start with the Sophtware Slump)
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (start with Orange or Extra Width)
The Thrills (only have one disc...So Much for the City)
The eels (start with Electro Shock Blues)

I second The Gossip, Le Tigre, Clinic, British Sea Power, My Bloody Valentine, The Shins, The Thrills, The Stone Roses and The New Pornographers recs.

+ for the Sonic Youth in you...
Glenn Branca, Helms, Rhys Chatham, Unwound, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead

+ for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in you...
LIARS, The Rapture, Au Pairs*, Gang of Four*, Blondie

*should be noted that you will probably like these more if you are into The Rapture. It seems that, generally speaking, fans of the Yeahs will also like The Rapture, though.

And if you like The Flaming Lips (especially their work of the last 3-4 years) you might as well check out Steve Burns' debut album, Songs for Dustmites. It's pretty good and sounds, well, very similar to the last 2 FL full-length efforts. Similar sound (due to the same producer) and similar song-writing.

Get Isn't Anything, Glider EP and Tremolo EP while you're at it. Awesome stuff.

yo la tengo, the wedding present, the weakerthans, starlight mints, spoon, of montreal, minus the bear, the decemberists, apples in stereo, and the promise ring (the promise ring isn't really like those bands you are into, but I'm into some of those bands and tpr is my fav. indie rock/emo band of all time!) so check these bands out!

For fans of Sonic Youth check out: Delgados
If you like Luna try: Mojave 3
fans of Pixies check out: Imperial Teen, The Wannadies, Stellastarr*

The Clientelle
Cinerama
Beta Band
Witness UK
Mogwai

my personal thought of Super Furry Animals is to check out the first album: 'Fuzzy Logic', then 'Radiator'
