Johnny Cash: Unearthed box set, plus one track I can't wait to hear
This 5 disc set sounds amazing, but one track really jumped out at me:
Redemption Song (with Joe Strummer)
If that is indeed the cover I expect it is, the combination of Marley, Strummer and Cash, all gone too soon, could be unbelievable. Anyone ever hear this?

I had thought at one point this was to be released next week, but haven't seen any preorder information. Anyone know when the release date is?

Amazon has it (incredibly my mom located before I did)
Again, really looking forward to hearing this. The chills at first hearing the man in black's versions of Hurt and One will certainly return.

Hmm, for some reason I thought it wasn't. Out of curiosity, I put all 4 albums in my CD changer and programmed the sequence of the fifth compilation disc when I first read the tracklist and I didn't remember "One" being included but that was a few weeks ago. In any case, I stand corrected.

CC has it advertised this week for 52.99 (or 54.99, I can't remember)
I think this might be a good suggestion for a Christmas present for mysef. I've only gotten into Cash in the last year, and this collection looks great.

I wouldn't mind hearing these for myself, but my husband and I thought about it and decided that "Unearthed" is not a very timely name for a Johnny Cash boxset.

"Unearthed" is the name of the box set when Johnny Cash himself was involved in it's compilation and Rick Rubin decided that they would keep it that way. The set & title were announced before Cash's death and it was completed the very day before he passed. It does seem a bit inappropriate if you're uninformed but at the end of the day, I'd rather have them release the box exactly as Cash had prepared it rather than change it in a ridiculous attempt to be overly-PC.

I guess I needed another reason to complain about Lost Highway.

Heard the duet with Strummer on "Redemption Song" the other day, listening to WDET.
I was so creeped out, I sat through a green light.
To the guy in the blue Toyota behind me, please accept my apologies.

I thought the fifth disc would be a complete waste since I already own the four "American" albums (and the Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson VH1 Storytellers disc, so I have the complete "Cash on American" recordings) but the version of "Thirteen" in the box is extended by about a minute with additional lyrics.

Most of the tracks are on Rhapsody and I was listening to it today. Nice set. I liked their version of Redemption song.
The Chieftains do an interesting version of this song too (along with Ziggy Marley).

this set is amazing. i picked up this box tonight and i can honestly say i have never been so pleased with a music purchase.
i don't know about anyone else but this release really snuck up on me. i had heard about it over the summer and again after Cash died but i was expecting a delay. and then all of a sudden i saw it in the Best Buy ad. what a surprise.
the music is great and there are some nice touches left in the audio (such as Cash talking and joking with Rubin and the crew after some songs). the highlight so far has to be Redemption Song (as well as the story behind the recording with Sturmmer and the accompanying picture of the two found in the text). and the packaging is as beautiful as the music inside.
pick this set up this week before it jumps to the regular price ($70+). i really hope Rubin doesn't stop with the release of American V...i would love to see everything in the vault released.
FYI: there is a cd of American outtakes floating around. some of the tracks found on the cd are also included in the box but i haven't had a chance to compare them to see if they are the same versions.

It hasn't creeped up on me. I have been waiting impatiently for it for months, as I will to hear what is going to become of the 50 new songs he recorded after his wife's death that were not included here. This set is not even released in Canada yet. It is being released on Tuesday, and I have had it pre-ordered for quite a while.
