Time Warner HDTV Cable Box Questions

Does anyone know what the installation involves? I know a tech has to visit, but what exactly does he have to do? run a new line? I asked customer service here in NYC, byt they had no clue. Also can this box be used in conjunction with a PVR/DVR. I know I won't be able to record in HDTV, but I am thinking of getting the new Pioneer HD/DVDR/TIVO unit and wanted to know if it would work with the HD box. Any help is appreciated.

Well, if you don't have a cable line from them already then yes they will have to run a cable line through your residence. Time Warner also offers a DVR with one of their boxes if you get digital cable from them, I think it is something like $6 extra per month.

They don't reccomend using a TIVO with the HD box, I don't know why I have never tried it... When they come to install the cable they should check the line coming frome the Tap (pole or underground) to the house to check for signal degredation. After that, they will check the signal in the room you are putting the HD box. If the line is to distorted they will replace it. Then they will install the box call in the #'s and program your remote. That is all they do.

I think the issue with PVR/HD is that there are very few, if any, PVR's that can handle, record, or passthrough HD signals.
We just got TWC installed [can't get Dish at the new house], and got a DVR box and an HD box. What we were going to do was have the DVR on the main tv [which is the HDTV], have the HD box upstairs on the old tv, and swap them out when I want to watch HD. But the old tv doesn't display the HD's guides or anything. So we might try to put the HD box and the DVR on the 'main' tv. [the HD box has DVI! My tv has DVI! All I need now is a cable {my tv has 1 HD component [now using the DVD player] and one HD DVI input}].

Side note: the Scientific Atlanta DVR box they gave me, sucks. I got spoiled with my DishPVR. And I wish the EPG was searchable; I got a promotion where I get Basic, Standard, Digital, and every HBO, Showtime, TMC, Cinemax, and Starz, but it's a challenge finding a specific program. I'm still learning all the little abbreviations for the movie channels. To me, a good DVR is more essential than HD at this time, but if I can get them both hooked up, that'd be cool.
